NWA North American Champion to NWA Pro Wrestling Fusion

Joey Machete is announcing that North American Champion, El Leon Apollo will be heading to the state where the man won the NWA World Tag Team title with Dlo Brow.  Apollo has been invited by Pro Wrestling Fusion for what I can only guess will be a North American Title defense.  Also rumored for January 30th will be none other than the NWA Florida Tag Team Champions the Dark City Fight Club taking on the returning Heartbreak Express.

We'll keep you posted on all the card updates, but who do you think Apollo will defend his title against?  Will it be former NWA Heritage Champion TJ Perkins, former WWE wrestler 2 Cold Scorpio, or former WCW wrestler Prince Iaukea?  Maybe Steve Madison can finally cash in and take the next step?  Who do you think Apollo's opponent will be?  Comment bellow!

NWA North American Heavyweight Champion - El Gran Apolo makes his way to the Sunshine State of Florida on January 30, 2010 to defend his title against the toughest competition in the south as he debuts for one of the NWA’s top promotions, PRO WRESTLING FUSION. There has been no word on who El Gran Apolo will be facing in the squared circle but stories of FUSION wrestlers lobbying to get a shot at the prestigious North American title are circulating. Francisco Ciatso has been bombarding the Fusion Offices as of late stating that he is on a tear and deserves this more than ever…Steve Madison’s camp has also showed interest in the title and Steve has proven lately that he will do anything to get what he wants while demonstrating a brand new attitude. Not a word has been heard from Tommy Taylor. Last we heard, he was reported to have returned to England after being badly burned by The Sheik. Speaking of The Sheik, one could hardly talk titles without mentioning The Sheik who is currently one of the biggest rising stars in the entire NWA, holding the NWA Florida and NWA Midwest Heavyweight Titles. Surely The Sheik vs Apolo would be an interesting match up but we must wait to see how this story unfolds…

One would think that The Sheik, by virture of holding two NWA titles and wrestling in various NWA promotions around the US, would be the obvious choice for the title shot at El Gran Apolo. He is ranked by the NWA as one of the top 10 contenders to the North American title, and by NWA by-laws would be in line for a shot. One of the benifits of being a champion in the NWA championship system is the champions are automatically ranked and given shots at the champions for the next level. For instance, the North American Heavyweight Championship is the next logical step up from state/regional titles like the NWA Florida and Mid-western Heavyweight titles, and the North American Champion is ranked and given NWA World Heavyweight Title matches. The current NWA World Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon Jr has already disrespected The Sheik by brushing aside his championship match ealier this year, driving the Madman from the Sands on a furious quest to prove to the NWA board of directors that he deserved a heavyweight championship. The Sheik, a man who previously had no interest in championships, quickly won the NWA Florida and Midwestern heavyweight titles, but as of yet has still been ignored and mocked by Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon, Jr. These title wins, however, could force the NWA to give the Iranian Butcher a shot at El Gran Apolo's NWA North American Heavywight championship.American wrestling fans already lothe the fact an Iranian holds two 'regional' NWA titles, but imagine the rage if he were to hold the very championship of North America? If The Sheik was to capture that title, Blue Demon Jr. could no longer deny his demands for a NWA World Title match. It's that very confrontation that is the Sheik's ultimate goal. It will be interesting to see who the NWA Board of Directors deems worthy of the title shot. While no one likes the sheik, no one can deny that he is the logical, and maybe only choice. It's also obvious to see why the NWA Board would want to avoid putting the Sheik in a postion of power by holding the North American, and maybe World titles. No one can control or predict the Sheik's next move or thought. What would he do if he was in possession of the ultimate prize in professional sports? Go back to Iran and present the Ayatollah with the championship belt? The NWA has always been protective of it's World title, and who it allows to face it's World Champion, and one would think The Sheik, much like his mentor the Original Sheik, would rarely, if ever, be granted a shot at 'the ten pounds of gold'. This will be an extremely interesting story to watch unfold.

There is no telling how enraged the Sheik will be if the title shot is given to another competitor. Perhaps out of spite, the front office should give the match to another Fusion wrestler and let Madison and Sheik battle out for a # 1 Contender match for the North American Championship.
