NWA Week In Review March 14th
We're half way through the month and the Big News coming out of the Showcase tapings from this past weekend, March 7th and 8th, has been announced. “Striking Gold: An NWA Special Event” is planned for Saturday, May 2nd, at the Oil Palace in Tyler, TX. The cream of the crop of the NWA will be showcased. Blue Demon Jr. will be taking on Number 1 Contender and perennial thorn in his side "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce. Pearce has been chasing Demon all over North America. Pearce lost his title to Demon in a controversial fashion in Mexico 2008. Over the past 6 months Demon and Pearce have had a war of words, the belt will be on the line at this big event. A big Tag Team Championship match will take place between the Skull Krushers versus Cade and Murdock. Also scheduled to appear will be: Cassandro the Exotico, Magno, Puerto Rico’s Apollo, Cobra II, Incognito, Puma and the Mini’s. This all takes place May 2nd in Tyler Texas.
Also at the Showcase tapings a new tag team was formed. Joey Ryan has been on a quest to find a suitable replacement for his Real American Tag Team Partner, since Karl Anderson began to work full-time for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Ryan, known for his tag team expertise and a former NWA World Tag Team Champion comb through the ranks, even teasing a potential break up between the Young Bucks. It seems that Joey finally recieved an application he liked in former WWE and ECW wrestler Guido Maritato, as "Broadway and Vine" seem to have their targets set on terrorizing the Young Bucks on their way to the Tag Team Titles.
Also at the NWA Showcase was the emergence of another challenger for Mike DiBiase's North American Title. Although its true that DiBiase has a title defense against Kevin Northcutt, another challenger has set his sights on the North American Title. Former TNA star who has been a NWA Tag Champion, and held both Puerto Rican Heavyweight Champions made his intentions clear to Mike DiBiase in that he wants a shot at the NWA North American Title. El Gran Apolo destroyed his competition with ease at the television tapings and confronted DiBiase who made an open challenge to any of the boys in the back. The Champ won the championship in 07 in North Carolina and has defended the title mostly in the Southwest and for the NWA Pro territories. DiBiase's next defense will be March 21st for the 11th Anniversary of the NWA Southwest. Apolo had recently defeated Danny Inferno for the newly named NWA On-Fire championship.
NWA On Fire had retired the "Television" moniker on their championship titles and will simply be refered to as NWA On-Fire Heavyweight Championship and NWA On-Fire Tag Titles. This weekend saw the return of Shane Douglas to the NWA. NWA On-Fire being the only promotion in the Alliance willing to give Shane Douglas a second chance may have already been burned at the On-Fire Tapings. Douglas was quoted as saying, "Finally, as one who rarely believes in coincidences, I haven't failed to notice the sardonic irony in the NWA playing host to "The Franchise's" return. There IS just a tiny bit of history between me and this organization. My feelings, after all these years, since that night of infamy at the ECW Arena, have NOT changed. I still view that belt, and that company, with the same level of disdain I always have. New Jersey, I am on my way!!!" Maybe the Gran Apolo could teach Douglas some humility this weekend.
NWA Main Event through YouTube announced that they will be back on television via the Comcast Channel 74 at Noon on Saturdays. Jason James brought this message with Main Event authority Scott Barry. Main Event recently ran a show in Kentucky that featured Jerry Lawler and long time arch-nemesis "Superstar" Bill Dundee in front of 1300 fans.
Main Event isn't the only promotion in Tennessee making waves. The aptly titled NWA Cyberslam which combines the efforts of NWA Top Rope and United States Wrestling Orginization continued with the second episode of Cyberslam TV. Matches for that show are Cyberslam Champion "Black Diamond" Kliff Hanger in an ASAP match with Anthony Wayne. Also on the card "Bad-Boy" Dixon vs. "Real Deal Derrik Neal and AM Vision and Mike Rapada Jr. And in the main event a non-title match for Calypso vs. Kliff Hanger. Also with their second episdoe is NWA Charlotte who featured matches from the Thorns and Roses; TNA Knockout Champion and former NWA Women's Champion finally gets a rematch from the woman that took the title away from her, MsChif. NWA Week In Review for Feb 21st.
The NWA Week In Review is back and has this been a busy week for the Alliance. First we start off with The Heart Break Kid and WWE referee Marty Elias stopped by the School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California. Marty is a former fixture of Southern California wrestling scene having refereed many of the promotions based in that area. While the EWF Wrestlers and students trained, Shawn Michaels offered advice. Even working with Candice LeRae, where she taught Shawn a few of her submission holds. Shawn was said to be impressed with LeRae. You might remember LeRae being destroyed by Amazing Kong last February on the NWA Showcase.
Last year Shawn Michaels retired Ric Flair. The freedom of Flair's retirement has allowed him to make appearances for Independent promotions and a series of NWA events. WOOOOOOO!!! Ric Flair returns to the Mid-Atlantic this weekend. The 2008 Hall of Famer will be signing Autographs. Everyone who attends the autograph signing will also be in the front row for the Mid-Atlantic event this week. Joining Flair will be fellow Hall of Famers the Midnight Express, Rock 'n' Roll Express at the event in action.
The action doesn't stop there, the NWA will be flexing its muscles all over this weekend. 12 shows across three countries including seven of the United States. In the UK, Scotland Wrestling Association will be in Johnstone to premier the SWAT Division. The participants must outlast each other to earn a title shot at the NWA Scottish Heavyweight Championship at the next show. In Saluda, Virgina NWA Fusion (formerly NWA Virgina) will feature a big main event between to former friends and former North American Tag Team Champions turned bitter rivals. NWA Continental Champion "Big Time" Mike Booth defends his title against "The Pain Train" Preston Quinn as the Old School Empire, explodes!!! Further down south, NWA Anarchy holds its bi-weekly television tapings. The big main event includes a WAR for the Tag Team Titles as New Wave takes on Talent and Money in a no disqualification match. NWA Southwest's Pro Wrestling Federation will be in action in Amarillo and in Tenessee Main Event will be running at the Life Center and at the Wilson County Fair Grounds, Top Rope will be putting on a tag team title main event. In Australia, Explosive Pro Wrestling returns to Maylands to witness Davis Storm put his EPW Heavyweight Title on the line against Richter. Following NWA Pro members to California where will have several events in the state. SoCal Pro, based in San Diego will featuring a Steel Cage match between rivals SoCal Crazy (known on the Showcase as Sidareal.) Mach 1 Wrestling, based in Santa Ana will be crowning its first ever champion in a battle royal. Already confirmed for this event, Aaron Aguilera, former Heritage Champion TJ Perkins, the man that beat Perkins for the Heritage title, Ryan Taylor and 1/2 of the former NWA Tag Team Champions, Joey Ryan. In King City, Worlds Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon Jr. is scheduled to wrestle "Old School" Oliver John. This would mark the second time these two have faced off, the first being at the Columbia Square Studios for the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood pilot.

Elsewhere in Nashville, Mike Porter announced that NWA Main Event has ended their relationship with the ION Affiliate in Nashville. Sometimes we felt that I hands were tied at ION as to what we could show and say on air. They are still in negotiations to release their show to a television audience. The Community Life Center, in Nashville, will still host tapings and will continue every Saturday. They will also return to the Fairgrounds monthly. And Porter also said that "this couple of weeks off will give us an opportunity to change the lighting in the building and put up drapes and even build an entrance way. Also we have ordered new equipment to update what we have and we will have that equipment in place within a few days. We are also upgrading our talent roster with the addition of several new wrestlers..." Porter posted on the Mid-Southern Wrestling Message Board that they are planning to bring in talent from NWA Anarchy as well as talent from West Virgina and Southern Indiana. Porter also mentioned that the current roster will be updated.
NWA On-Fire has announced that they have come to terms with Shane Douglas. The man who disrespected the legacy of the NWA threw the Legendary 10lbs. of Gold down in the middle of an arena nearly 15 Years prior. Douglas is announced to be competing against Little Guido who competes somewhat regularly for NWA On-Fire.
Lastly the NWA Pro Wrestling associate Revolution Pro Wrestling will be returning to Las Vegas, April 13th, 14th and 15th. PWR will join the Cauliflower Alley Club to celebrate that past, present, and future of pro wrestling. Last year the event hosted matches featuring NOAH's Go Shioaski versus PWR's "Old School" Oliver John, along with Superstars of Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Ricky Landell. Gabe Ramirez has invited any talent interested in taking part in the show, spots are filling up fast, so please contact info@prowrestling-revolution.com.

NWA Cyberslam Episode 1
NWA Cyberslam has now been made availalbe on demand at www.championshipwrestling.tv/cyberslam. It is pretty ambitious to have a wrestling show on the 7th and have video up before the 16th. It was a good first effort. I am looking forward to the next shows. I believe the next event is scheduled for Feb. 28th.

NWA Week in Review for Feb. 14th
Like cupids arrow we are being shot through the heart of this weeks NWA news. This is the week in review for February 14th, 2009.
The Worlds Heavyweight Title is scheduled to be defended at the El Rancho Restaurant in Tepotzotlan, MX. This is the second of many efforts to bring affordable wrestling action to the fans of Mexico. It is well known that Mexico is suffering from the harsh economic conditions and this is NWA Mexico's effort in trying to make their style of Lucha Libre more accessible to the fine people of Mexico. Blue Demon Jr. will take on rival El Dandy. When asked about the qualifications of El Dandy in receiving a title show, legendary 2nd generation wrestler Bret Hart had this to say, "Who are you, to doubt El Dandy!" Sorry folks, that joke will never get old for me.
Speaking of the champ, Blue Demon Jr.'s appearance on the Showcase 09 took place yesterday on ColoursTV. If you've been keeping up with this blog, you'd know that the match was made available earlier this week on NWAWrestling.com. Demon defends against Border Patrol member Derrick Sanders. The card also features the Showcase debut of Cade and Murdock, Joey Ryan, Tristan Gallo, and Adam Pearce bullies poor David Marquez.
Controversy, confusion, and perhaps a little hard feelings were the sentiment in Music City this week. Apparently NWA Main Event and associate NWA Top Rope couldn't even agree to disagree as Main Event's promoter, Mike Porter claimed that only his television taping in Nashville was the only sanctioned NWA event last week. However, Top Rope promoter Mike Sircy, who recently created NWA Cyberslam, which is a union of the NWA Top Rope Promotion with Tennessee Indy promotions USWO and ATL begs to differ. "This taping is a NWA Top Rope Production. The internet show will be called NWA Cyberslam. So I would have to say this portion of the night would be a sanctioned NWA Show," claimed a representative from Top Rope. That night of action did see the crowning of a new Cyberslam Champion in Kliff Hanger who defeated JD Fluffy, Raul Loco, and LT Falk in a tournament to gain the crown. Porter's group ran a television taping for its Weekly action on Nashville's ION Network.
Brandon K has to be at least nominated for the Worst Tag Team Partner Award. Brandon K and Sterling James Keenan became the North American Tag Team Champions by defeating the Wrong Crowd last year. Aside from a handful of defenses K and Keenan hadn't really had that much competition. Brandon K had focused his energies on former National Champion Crusher Hansen. While Champion, Hansen evaded K for months. Finally being pinned in a match against Brandon that featured 4 other competitors. Brandon K thought he won the National Title before an executive decision gave the title back to Hansen. Hansen was later defeated by NWA Anarchy's Phil Shatter. Ok back to why K is a terrible partner, he puts up his partners half of the tag team title against Hansen's rematch against Shatter. If Hansen wins, he keeps his shot at the National Title and becomes Brandon K's new partner. If K wins, SJK keeps his spot in the tag team and K gets a show at Shatter. In the infamous words of some fan at the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood tapings "[Brandon K] you're a bum!" This all goes down today at the Valentine's Day Massacre for NWA East.
Earlier in the year we reported that TJ Perkins lost a loser leaves town match in the NWA Pro associate EWF. When it seems that Perkins isn't just leaving the town, that he's actually leaving the state. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla broke the news about Perkins last match as a SoCal Resident against long time foil B-Boy at the PWG's Express Written Consent takes place Saturday, February 21. Perkins has been a foundation of the wrestling scene in So-Cal not only being a start attraction, but also trainer to many of the new talents. Perkins will be missed. There is speculation that TJ Perkins will be moving to Florida. This could be great news for our NWA fans on the East Coast. If you get a chance to catch a Perkins match, do it.
Lastly this week I got some clarification from Mr. Bill Behrens, about the NWA House Shows that were ran at the end of the year. "The three events were to be co-promoted with the [venues]," said NWA Promoter Bill Behrens. To my knowledge these were the first events that were not promoted in conjunction with the NWA Pro Wrestling promotion. The first Ohio show was headlined by Trevor Murdock vs. Pepper Parks. Murdock had already worked some dates with NWA Pro/NWA Southwest as a challenger to Brent Albright's Worlds Championship. Parks continues to work for the NWA Empire promotion with working some dates with the NWA Showcase television show and is a former National Heavyweight Champion. The second big event in Ohio was headlined by Al Snow vs. Pepper Parks. The third event which was to take place in Michigan was canceled because of low ticket sales. That event was to see Mike Quackenbush defend his Junior Heavyweight title against Shannon Moore and the Skull Krushers were to defend their belts against the Phoenix Twins. Unfortunately these shows were not taped. However Behrens assured me that these won't be the last efforts of running these house shows in larger venues.

Aside from a handful of defenses K and Keenan hadn't really had that much competition. Brandon K had focused his energies on former National Champion Crusher Hansen. While Champion, Hansen evaded K for months. Finally being pinned in a match against Brandon that featured 4 other competitors. Brandon K thought he won the National Title before an executive decision gave the title back to Hansen. Hansen was later defeated by NWA Anarchy's Phil Shatter. Ok back to why K is a terrible partner, he puts up his partners half of the tag team title against Hansen's rematch against Shatter. If Hansen wins, he keeps his shot at the National Title and becomes Brandon K's new partner. If K wins, SJK keeps his spot in the tag team and K gets a show at Shatter. In the infamous words of some fan at the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood tapings "[Brandon K] you're a bum!" This all goes down today at the Valentine's Day Massacre for NWA East.
Earlier in the year we reported that TJ Perkins lost a loser leaves town match in the NWA Pro associate EWF. When it seems that Perkins isn't just leaving the town, that he's actually leaving the state. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla broke the news about Perkins last match as a SoCal Resident against long time foil B-Boy at the PWG's Express Written Consent takes place Saturday, February 21. Perkins has been a foundation of the wrestling scene in So-Cal not only being a start attraction, but also trainer to many of the new talents. Perkins will be missed. There is speculation that TJ Perkins will be moving to Florida. This could be great news for our NWA fans on the East Coast. If you get a chance to catch a Perkins match, do it.
Lastly this week I got some clarification from Mr. Bill Behrens, about the NWA House Shows that were ran at the end of the year. "The three events were to be co-promoted with the [venues]," said NWA Promoter Bill Behrens. To my knowledge these were the first events that were not promoted in conjunction with the NWA Pro Wrestling promotion. The first Ohio show was headlined by Trevor Murdock vs. Pepper Parks. Murdock had already worked some dates with NWA Pro/NWA Southwest as a challenger to Brent Albright's Worlds Championship. Parks continues to work for the NWA Empire promotion with working some dates with the NWA Showcase television show and is a former National Heavyweight Champion. The second big event in Ohio was headlined by Al Snow vs. Pepper Parks. The third event which was to take place in Michigan was canceled because of low ticket sales. That event was to see Mike Quackenbush defend his Junior Heavyweight title against Shannon Moore and the Skull Krushers were to defend their belts against the Phoenix Twins. Unfortunately these shows were not taped. However Behrens assured me that these won't be the last efforts of running these house shows in larger venues.

NWA in Tennessee, a state of confusion?
Amidst the controversy of the National Wrestling Alliance in the State of Tennessee, The National Wrestling Alliance had a shared presence in the Music City. Mike Porter's NWA Main Event ran a television taping for its show on Ion, at the Community Life Center in Nashville this past Saturday. However Porter wasn't alone in Nashville. Mike Sircy's NWA Top Rope, who is an associate member of Porter's Main Event, has centered its promotion in Lebanon, Tennessee. However Sircy has joined a union of other Nashville promoters, USWO and ATL to create NWA Cyberslam.
NWA Cyberslam taped a show also on Saturday at the Stadium Inn. Porter had claimed that this show would not be sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance. However, a represenative for NWA Top Rope said "This taping is a NWA Top Rope Production. The internet show will be called NWA Cyberslam. So I would have to say this portion of the night would be a sactioned NWA show."
The night saw a crowing of a new NWA Cyberslam Champion in Kliff Hanger who defeated JD Fluffy, Raul Loco, and LT Falk in a tournament to gain the crown.
