NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood

NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood took place at a mecca of professional wrestling in Southern California, the Galaxy Theatre.  Over the last 10 years, the Galaxy has hosted mostly concert events, but also wrestling has infested the venue.  Over the years former WWE Developmental Ultimate Pro Wrestling called the Galaxy Theatre home.  And even Midget Wrestling has emanated from the Galaxy.  From the outside you wouldn't even know the venue was able to host a wrestling event.  But some of the biggest names in wrestling today have competed in a wrestling ring that venue.  John Cena, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Brian Kendrick, Paul London, and so many more.  NWA Pro Wrestling regulars like NWA World Champion Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, Rocky Romero, and TJ Perkins spent much of the early 2000s at the Galaxy.

What some would call a home coming, NWA Pro Wrestling brought WRESTLING back on the marquee.  And to be honest, it didn't feel like a television taping.  Which if you've attended a TV taping before, is a huge compliment.  Matches were allowed to go long.  I didn't have a stop watch, but there were several matches that seemed to go longer than the traditional five minutes.   The concert stage was used as the entrance ramp for the show.  With do NWA Banners on either side of the walk way.  Colt Cabana was electric in the ring and on the microphone.  When the show premieres on KDOC-TV or NWA Hollywood.com there will be a lot of matches that were a lot of fun.  My favorite matches in no particular order; NWA World Championship Match: Adam Pearce vs. Scorpio Sky, Joey Ryan vs. TJ Perkins, NWA Heritage Tag Team Champions RockNES Monsters vs. Los Luchas, and the Six Man Tag of Sky, Joey Ryan and Willie Mack vs. Pearce, Rocky Romero, and Claudio Castagnoli.

Things that surprised me;
  • C. Edward Vanderpyle was conspicuous by his absence.  Normally the right hand man of NWA World Champion Adam Pearce is all over ringside, but he was nowhere in sight.
  • The positive reaction Adam Pearce received once "Black Betty" hit the loud speaker.  Of course I was on my feet applauding the efforts of the man who successfully retained his Worlds Championship 5 times in the month.  But the entire crowd seemingly was vocal about their admiration of the Worlds Champion, that is until we were all shunned by the champ.
  • My daughter being excited about her first wrestling show.

The only thing that disappointed me is the little interaction between the Sheik and Adam Pearce.  I don't want to spoil the show, so stay tuned to see what happens.  Overall it was a very entertaining night at the Galaxy.  And I think it will translate well to television.  Of all the previous NWA Pro Wrestling attempts at television in the past, I think this one already comes off more well polished.  The roster is at another level and I think this show will be must see TV.

Dody, maybe I'm a little naive, but this show just seems like it has all the elements to be successful.

Is this show going to have seasons or be ongoing? I agree though, this sounds great. I really hope this show works and makes it to a major network.

Nick,

I've talked at length with people behind the scenes and the plan is to run regularly. The next taping is set for Oct. 2nd.
