NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood NEWS

NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood
KDOC-TV InfoBlast for September 28, 2010

-         Official this afternoon, Claudio Castagnoli has signed to face Scorpio Sky on October 6 television tapings at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA.  Castagnoli made his disdain for Willie Mack known at the last tapings, and in addition to facing Mack, “Very European” will now contend with perhaps the best athlete in all of professional wrestling in Sky.  “I respect Claudio’s talent,” said Sky.  “But not his attitude.  I’m ready to adjust it for him.”  It’s Sky versus Castagnoli on 10/6!

-         NWA North American Champion The Sheik and “Hollywood’s Own” Joey Ryan have engaged in their own personal war of words as of late, hot on the heels of the announcement that they’ll face off on October 6.  Both men are laying claim to the position of top contender to Adam Pearce’s NWA World’s Championship, and their bout on 10/6 will leave no doubts to who deserves a shot at the vaunted “Ten Pounds of Gold”.  Check out Ryan’s comments at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTyNDeuKplg, and Sheik’s rebuttal at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maCCKOBq_PE.  Things are heating up around the World’s Title!

-         Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, coming off of a pinfall victory over Pearce on September 4 in Mexico City for IWL, has been granted a shot at the NWA World’s Title and that championship match will take place on October 6th at the Galaxy Theatre.  Pearce and Cabana have known each other for almost 15 years, even having competed against each other on the gridiron, as both men were standout High School football players in Illinois.  Pearce has been credited by Cabana for being an early mentor in his career, and now all of the intimate knowledge will come into play when these two former friends collide for the title.  Tickets are on sale now at http://www.ticketmaster.com/NWA-Championship-Wrestling-tickets/artist/1469100 or by calling the Galaxy Theatre box office at (714) 957-0600.

-         “Skullkrusher” Rasche Brown returns to NWA action and will debut at the October 6 KDOC television tapings.  Brown is a storied champion in the NWA, having held the World Tag Team Championship longer than anyone in history.  Now he comes to Hollywood with singles aspirations, and one thing is for certain:  The Galaxy Theatre has never seen a man like Brown.  Pain is coming.

-         This Friday night at 8pm, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood presents the first matches filmed for KDOC!  This historic broadcast is headlined by a tremendous main event with T.J. Perkins taking on Joey Ryan.  Who will come out on top of this stellar matchup?  Tune in on Friday night or at 11pm on Saturday to find out!  For more information on this week’s episode, check out http://nwahollywood.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53:october-1-tv-preview&catid=2:latest-news&Itemid=13.  And check out http://www.kdoctv.net/channel_finder.html to find KDOC in your area!

Willie Mack Joins the Alliance

Mach-1 Champ Willie Mack joins Alliance Radio Monday, Sept. 20th at 7:30PM EDT, 4:30PM PDT.

Some might call the Mach 1 Heavyweight Champion, Willie Mack and over-night sensation, but that would be an injustice to all the blood, sweat, and tears, Mack has shed through out his struggles to make in the world of professional wrestling.  Mack made his first splash to a national audience when he appeared on the NWA Showcase.  Still learning the ropes, Mack would face off against guys like Joey Ryan, NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce, and former World Champion Brent Albright. February 5th of this year, Willie Mack cashed in an opportunity to wrestle in a Four-Way Match for the Mach-1 Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.  Outlasting Ryan, James Morgan and Bobby Marshall, Mack has held on to that title successfully regardless of the challenger.  As his notoriety grew, Mack would be invited to take part in the wildly successful Lucha Va Voom under the guise of Chocolate Caliente.  The native of St. Louis Missouri, faces his biggest challenge in Mach-1 in the man "Big Nasty" Jason Watts who has every intention to take the title from Willie Mack.  I will be talking to Mack about his eventual showdown with Watts, Mach-1 Wrestling, his altercation with "Very European" Claudio Castagnoli, and how he feels about the NWA Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.  And we'll be taking your calls!

NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood

NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood took place at a mecca of professional wrestling in Southern California, the Galaxy Theatre.  Over the last 10 years, the Galaxy has hosted mostly concert events, but also wrestling has infested the venue.  Over the years former WWE Developmental Ultimate Pro Wrestling called the Galaxy Theatre home.  And even Midget Wrestling has emanated from the Galaxy.  From the outside you wouldn't even know the venue was able to host a wrestling event.  But some of the biggest names in wrestling today have competed in a wrestling ring that venue.  John Cena, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Brian Kendrick, Paul London, and so many more.  NWA Pro Wrestling regulars like NWA World Champion Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, Rocky Romero, and TJ Perkins spent much of the early 2000s at the Galaxy.

What some would call a home coming, NWA Pro Wrestling brought WRESTLING back on the marquee.  And to be honest, it didn't feel like a television taping.  Which if you've attended a TV taping before, is a huge compliment.  Matches were allowed to go long.  I didn't have a stop watch, but there were several matches that seemed to go longer than the traditional five minutes.   The concert stage was used as the entrance ramp for the show.  With do NWA Banners on either side of the walk way.  Colt Cabana was electric in the ring and on the microphone.  When the show premieres on KDOC-TV or NWA Hollywood.com there will be a lot of matches that were a lot of fun.  My favorite matches in no particular order; NWA World Championship Match: Adam Pearce vs. Scorpio Sky, Joey Ryan vs. TJ Perkins, NWA Heritage Tag Team Champions RockNES Monsters vs. Los Luchas, and the Six Man Tag of Sky, Joey Ryan and Willie Mack vs. Pearce, Rocky Romero, and Claudio Castagnoli.

Things that surprised me;
  • C. Edward Vanderpyle was conspicuous by his absence.  Normally the right hand man of NWA World Champion Adam Pearce is all over ringside, but he was nowhere in sight.
  • The positive reaction Adam Pearce received once "Black Betty" hit the loud speaker.  Of course I was on my feet applauding the efforts of the man who successfully retained his Worlds Championship 5 times in the month.  But the entire crowd seemingly was vocal about their admiration of the Worlds Champion, that is until we were all shunned by the champ.
  • My daughter being excited about her first wrestling show.

The only thing that disappointed me is the little interaction between the Sheik and Adam Pearce.  I don't want to spoil the show, so stay tuned to see what happens.  Overall it was a very entertaining night at the Galaxy.  And I think it will translate well to television.  Of all the previous NWA Pro Wrestling attempts at television in the past, I think this one already comes off more well polished.  The roster is at another level and I think this show will be must see TV.

NWA Pro: Australia Tour 07

This tournament is shapping up to look phenomal. Claudio Castagnoli made a nice run in the Worlds Tournament, it could be expected he could repeat this task in the Auzzie Tournament.
Romero v. Slater: Romero will purely outclass Slater. Romero has been a champion just about everywhere he's wrestled. He will mop the floor with Slater.
Nichols v. Payne: Both men share 2 EPW Heavyweight Title reigns. Payne also won the EPW Invitation Tournament back in 2001. Nichols has more international experience, which is going to be needed considering the large international wrestlers in this tournament.
Storm v. Marshall: There may not be a better promo man in Australia than Bobby Marshall, but he will have his hands full with Davis Storm. Storm's resume has championship reigns. This will be a night for Marshall to prove his worth.
Steele v. Castagnoli: I have seen a lot of Steele via youtube. I've seen a lot of Castagnoli. And this match just might be the sleeper in the first round. Steele has a never say die attitude. Castagnoli is a wrestling machine. This match is going to off the charts.
My Predictions: 2nd Round--Romero v. Nichols, Storm v. Castagnoli
Finals--Nichols v. Castagnoli
Winner-- Nichols

New National Champion

Pepper Parks

Pepper Parks challenged "Hot Chocolate" Kory Williams for the vacant National Title. The belt was vacated recently due to the ankle injury that Chance Prophet suffered a couple of months ago. Perennial Loser Kory Williams lost the title to Chance on May 5th, 2007 . Prior to his defeat Kory Williams won the title in late September, 2006.

Pepper Park most recent spotlight came in the crowning of a new worlds champion tournament when he was defeated by Claudio Castagnoli in the first round. Parks has might big shoes to fill as Chance clearly elevated the title. During this time Chance gained a cult-following with his "Talkin' Back With The Champ" video blog and his never say die attitude in the ring. Parks has mighty big shoes to fill, but a lot of fans are looking forward to his tenure as champion.

NWA World Title Finals are set... why are you complaining???

So the NWA Finals are set. People are complaining about a Ring of Honor Finals. I don't know how you can complain about Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson. There are many complaints about how could the NWA lend its credence to an all ROH Finals. But the bottom line is that these guys are far from exclusive to Ring Of Honor. And even more important, do you really believe the NWA would put itself into the same scenario. I give the Board a lot more credit than that.

But I digress, who would you want to take the place of the finals? Buff Bagwell? Rick Stiener? Lex Luger? Come on. This is beyond ridiculous. Lets just sit back and enjoy what the NWA is putting out.

I'm backing Pearce. I suggest you do the same. OR WOULD YOU RATHER SEE LUGER IN THE NWA AGAIN???

Update in the NWA World Title Tournament

On June 30th, 2007 in Chula Vista, California, in front of a crowd of 350 people, The Shooter Brent Albright topped Fred Sampson to secure his way into the Semi-Finals. The match was originally planned to take place in the home state of Oklahoma, but due to excessive rain fall and flooding this qualifying match was moved to San Diego. The changing of the venues worked to the disadvantage of Albright, because the crowd was behind Sampson, which probably would not have been the case in Oklahoma. Many believed that the match would come to an end when Sampson landed his Bonecrushing Powerslam. Albright shocked the crowd with a Half-Nelson suplex for the 3 count.

July 13th 2007, Knights of Columbus Hall, 4315 N. Vincent Ave, Covina CA. Belltime 8:00pm. Obviously this is home field advantage for "Scrap Iron", however, Adam Pearce has never endured himself to the home crowd. For "Techincal Perfection" Chad Parham may have the edge in this match up. Parham ousted none other that the pride of the Mid-Atlantic, Damien Wayne, to advance in the tournament. "Scrap Iron" may have something to worry about. Pearce beat Aaron Aguilera. The bottom line is that this is yet another styles clash that should lead to an exciting match up. Pearce isn't new to wrestling high flying smaller wrestlers. Adam Pearce feuding for a stint in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla with TNA's Frankie Kazarian. And as depicted earlier in the video of Pearce vs. Pelle in ROH, Pearce is used to facing the guys with a lot of quickness. Parahm has proved he can compete with the bigger guys. Both men are champions in the repective territories. Chad is the Anarchy Heavyweight Champion. Adam is the NWA Heritage Champion.
Lighting struck once when "Techincal Perfection" was able to defeat "Mr. Mid-Atlantic" Damien Wayne. However, Lightning won't be stricking twice. My prediction is that Adam Pearce will be too much for Parham.

"Showdown in CrisisLand!" on Saturday, July 21st, 2007, Live @ Knights of Columbus Hall , 279 Quinnipiac Street in Wallingford, CT! Doors open at 6:30 pm. Bell time is 7:00 pm.
"One new matched confirmed this morning will bring CHIKARA into the NWA spotlight. Currently, the NWA is in the process of crowning a new World Heavyweight champion. As luck would have it, two of the quarter-finalists in the NWA title tournament happen to be participating in our July 21 Wallingford card, and thanks to both Director of Fun Leonard F. Chikarason and NWA Executive Director Bob Trobich, we're proud to announce that for the first time ever, Claudio Castagnoli will face Sicodelico, Jr., and the match has been sanctioned as a quarter-final bout in the ongoing NWA title tourney! Everyone here at CHIKARA is proud to know we'll be playing a small part in this historic title tournament!"

Sicodelico Jr. and Claudio Castagnoli will be facing off in CHIKARA. I don't believe this makes CHIKARA anything offical to the NWA, but just friendly. Much like the NECW who hosted 2 qualifying matches early on for the NWA. This would have to be considered home field advantage for Caludio, considering he has competed inside a CHIKARA ring very frequently. However, the pro-lucha enthusiasm from the crowd might put Sicodelico over with the crowd.

The bracketing thus far hasn't favored either man. This match up should remind many of the match up betweens Dean Malenko and Rey Mysterio Jr. The luchador vs. the mat technician. I am greatly looking forward to this match up. Sicodelico I feel is going to be the under dog in this match up. He has a great opstacle to overcome in Castagnoli. I predict Claudio will put Sicodelico Jr. away and advance to the Semi-Finals.
