Former NWA Tag Team Chamion, Karl "The Machine Gun" and Giant Bernard won the IWGP Tag Team Championship.  And Former NWA British Commonwealth Champion, Fergal Devit won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

1. Koji Kanemoto, El Samurai & AKIRA beat Super Strong Machine, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tama Tonga (8:48) when Samurai used a la magistral on Tonga.

2. Takashi Iizuka, Tomohiro Ishii & Gedo beat Manabu Nakanishi, Mitsuhide Hirasawa & KUSHIDA (9:24) when Iizuka used a sleeper hold on KUSHIDA.

3. GBH vs. NOAH Special Singles Match: Mohammed Yone Pro Wrestling NOAH beat Tomoaki Honma (8:58) with a muscle buster.

4. Shinsuke Nakamura Return Match: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Daniel Puder (4:41) with the Boma Ye.

5. Special Singles Match: Hirooki Goto beat Masato Tanaka ZERO1 (13:39) with the Shouten.

6. IWGP Tag Team Title - 3WAY Elimination Match: Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson beat Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue (c) and Yujiro Takahashi & Tetsuya Naito (18:24). Nagata used a backdrop hold on Naito. Anderson used the Gun Stun on Inoue to become the 57th champions.

7. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt beat Naomichi Marufuji Pro Wrestling NOAH (c) (20:20) with an avalanche-style Bloody Sunday to become the 60th champion.

8. Hair vs. Hair Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Toru Yano (12:54) with a crucifix hold.

9. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Togi Makabe (c) beat Go Shiozaki Pro Wrestling NOAH (20:40) with a top rope King Kong kneedrop (1st defense).

* Show was said to have been incredible with some going as far as to call it one of the best in years by New Japan.

* Makabe surpassed the V1 hurdle where many have failed, pinning NOAH’s young ace Shiozaki. Makabe appeared legitimately hurt early on and the match took a while to get going, but became good and the IWGP Heavyweight Champion sent Shiozaki home with nothing. Makabe nominated Nakamura, who has a “rematch right”, as his pre-G1 challenger on the big Sapporo show next month. Makabe called Devitt out also after the match to enjoy the moment with him, the two having downed NOAH opposition.

* Tanahashi defeated Yano in the Hair vs. Hair match to take Yano’s hair, but Iizuka arrived to cause trouble. KUSHIDA, who has been at odds with CHAOS, arrived to help Tanahashi but it took the surprise appearance of KUSHIDA’s teacher TAJIRI to make a difference. He misted Yano and Iizuka, before shaking hands with Tanahashi and liquidating their old grudge! Tanahashi may appear on some of TAJIRI’s SMASH shows in future.

* Prince Devitt ascended to the top of the junior world, following up on his Best of the Super Jr. tournament win by beating the previously unbeatable Naomichi Marufuji to bring the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title back home after half a year in Marufuji’s hands! This was said to have been a tremendous match with Devitt showing his growth and completing his climb to the top of the junior ladder.

* Nagata & Wataru showed off brand new IWGP Tag Team Title belts before the show. However, they were unable to hold on to them as Bad Intentions finally captured the gold, Anderson pinning Wataru to win his first title. There were signs of dissension with NO LIMIT, a split between Takahashi and Naito hinted at.

* The long running Hirooki Goto vs. Masato Tanaka feud appears to have ended with Goto winning what seems to have been the decisive match after they were tied. This was said to have been excellent and this whole feud has helped Goto grow as a wrestler.

* Shinsuke Nakamura returned from injury and defeated controversial fighter Daniel Puder in short time. The talking point was the appearance of Simon Inoki and Atsushi Sawada of IGF, who appeared and seemed to eye up Nakamura, potentially reigniting the New Japan vs. IGF situation that never really began last year.

NWA Week in Review for Jan. 31st

The National Wrestling Alliance announced it will again return to running arena shows starting March 2nd South Dakota. David Marquez had announced earlier this week on the Alliance Message Board that the NWA did intend to run arena shows in March. Arena shows featuring the NWA Showcase talent started in 2006 and have been an integeral part of the NWA. This anouncement coinsides with NWA partnering with MyUTV, the My Network TV Affiliate in South Dakota, in bringing the Showcase to that local market. "We've made a deal with them to run our program to support this (and hopefully other) dates. Our programming has been on other network affiliates in the past," David Marquez posted recently on The Alliance message board. David Marquez also mentioned the NWA is actively looking at other stations to partner with to bring its style of wrestling to more local markets while still broadcasting on Colours TV.

Empire Wrestling Federation says goodbye to TJ Perkins. The former Heritage Champion and former EWF Tag Team Champion was bested by his former tag team partner, Liger Rivera in a Loser Leaves Town Match. Perkins and Rivera, formerly Famous for Fearless had won the tag titles as the ultimate underdogs by defeating the much larger La Ola Del Mal. Perkins achieved many honors this year with Rivera, Winning the EWF Tag Titles, Tag Team of the Year for 2008, And Feud of the Year for 2008. However Perkins had grown increasingly frustrated when Pearce lost his Heritage Championship to Ryan Taylor and later turning his back on Rivera after being defeated by the Young Bucks. Perkins attacked former Partner after losing the titles which led to the match that sent Perkins to hopefully greener pastures.

Alternative Wrestling Show owner Bart Kapitzke has sent word that AWS Action is slated to return March 22nd 2009. That date will mark the 7th year of the promotions existence. This has been a hard year for Alternative Wrestling Show and Alternative Wrestling Shop. AWS has canceled all live events, but will be running the Anniversary show. With that being said the Shop is still here and open for business. According to Bart "If you have not been to the store in the past two days, the complete inside has been re-done and it is now alot easier to find what you are looking for. Lot's of figures and dvd's have been marked down! So come on down and check it all out!" If you are not able to make it to the store, you can always make requests to Bart. AWS specializes in wrestling figures (Lucha and WWE), AWS DVDs, Lucha Libre Merchandise, and AWS Apparel.

Mach 1 Wrestling will be crowing a new champion in February. M1W front office announced that qualifying matches will take place to determine participants into a Battle Royal to crown the new honor. Already announced matches taking place on Jan. 29th are Devon Willis vs. Hurricane Marquez and Charles Mercury vs. Johnny Goodtime.

Tiger Mask IV was given a new championship belt, when he requested one. Tiger Mask is the 56th champion and defeated Low Ki for that honor earlier this month.

NWA Main Event returns to the Fair Grounds. Mike Porter announced that the NWA promoter and commissioner George Gulas will be bringing NWA Main Event Wrestling back to the Nick Gulas Sports Arena at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. Main Event will continue to run at the Community Life Center on Feb. 7th. Porter posted that they are planning to bring in talent from NWA Anarchy as well as talent from West Virgina and Southern Indiana.

NWA Mexico News

2009 for NWA Mexico starts with a series of shows that will make the NWA Lucha Libre more accessible by working smaller venues and charging less for tickets. This should be a successful move for the Luchadores with the global economic recession.

In other news, NWA Worlds Champion, Blue Demon Jr. is scheduled to tour in Japan with fellow NWA member, New Japan Pro Wrestling. His precenses in Japan will be a part of the celebration of the rich history that New Japan Wrestling has held with Mexican Wrestling.

Lastly the hate El Dandy has for Blue Demon Jr. just might spill over into the United States. It seems that a NWA wrestling promtion in the United States has requested the paperwork to file for a visa for Dandy. And anybody who doesn't think that El Dandy is a worthy challenger to the NWA Worlds Heavyweight title, remember the infamous words of Bret Hart... "Who are you to doubt El Dandy?"
