Charlie Haas stripped of the NWA Texas Title, New Champ to be crowned Jan. 7th

In the world of professional wrestling sometimes a title can change hands without the champion ever stepping into the ring.  Unfortunately NWA Southwest Commissioner Ken Taylor had to make the announcement that former WWE Superstar and reigning NWA Texas Champion, Charlie Haas would be stripped of the NWA Texas Title.   Taylor officially stripped the belt from Charlie Haas on January 2, 2011 for failing to make a title defense within 90 days so now the belt is up for grabs  at the Livestock Show Spectacular at the RMB Fairgrounds.

Taylor did announce that in four days, Friday January 7th at Robstown Texas, Sicodelico Jr. and  Lance Hoyt will square off in the ring to determine the new NWA Texas Champion.   Sicodelico Jr. has been one of the biggest names in Lucha Libre in the United States working between Mexico and the Lone Star State.  Sicodelico Jr. is one of very few wrestlers with victories over the NWA Worlds Champion, Adam Pearce.  Lance Hoyt has spent the past seven years wrestling for TNA Wrestling and recently in the WWE.  With Lance's departure from the WWE announced recently, it seems Hoyt is focused on making NWA Southwest his new home.  Hoyt a native of Texas plans to prove to the world that he is a superstar and hopes to do so at the expense of Sicodelico Jr.

NWA National Champion in NWA Southwest's Showdown in Sherman

With NWA Texas Champion, Charlie Haas missing in action, Phil Shatter's opponent has been announced for the Showdown in Sherman card being promoted by NWA Southwest. Jaykus Plisken will replace Haas in the NWA National Championship Match. Ken Taylor had said "We had to move on..." when the NWA Southwest Officials couldn't reach the Former WWE Superstar. "We will have a hell'va show... We don't wager all our money on one horse to win!" So Jakkus Plisken will receive a Golden Opportunity to be the man to bring back the National Championship to the Southwest. Unfortunately, Plisken still has to go through a very tough road. Phil Shatter coming off a crazed battle with NWA North American Champion the Sheik, has been reigning National Champion since 2009. Baring a big upset in Sherman Texas, Shatter will be entering 2011 a 2 Year Reigning National Champion. The rest of the line up looks like...

NWA Southwest to present Charlie Haas vs. Phil Shatter NWA National Title Match

Less than 24 Hours after yet another successful defense for the NWA National Champion Phil Shatter, NWA Southwest Commissioner Ken Taylor announced today that he signed Phil Shatter would agree to defend his title against NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion "Worlds Greatest Wrestler" Charlie Haas.  Shatter took on and defeated one of his largest opponents last night in the NWA Oklahoma champion Michael Faith.  Charlie Haas taunted the National Champion earlier this week, "You are not a man, you are a coward."

The National Champion has spent nearly two years defending the the title all across the United States.  His frequent flyer card has racked up a lot of miles between Hollywood, Charlotte, Cornelia, McKeepsort, or Lebanon and has faced some of the best of the National Wrestling Alliance.  And in those years, Shatter has earned top ranking in the National Wrestling Alliance, complete with multiple title shots against the Worlds Champion.  Shatter even has something Charlie Haas doesn't, a victory over Adam Pearce.  Phil Shatter told reporters from NWA Southwest, “As Champion, I have the opportunity to effect match-ups that will enhance my championship legacy, and this is certainly one of them!

Phil Shatter will return to the NWA Southwest in the first National Title defense since 2001.  Both men wish to see NWA World Champion Adam Pearce once again.  And both men know that they have to go through each other to earn that shot.  Next month, Sherman Texas, it will take place at Ringside Training & Event Center.  Commissioner Taylor said "This match is about two wrestlers very capable of being World Heavyweight Champion."  The card is being billed “Showdown In Sherman” – a metro area of 100,000 located 55 miles north of Dallas.  The last thing Shatter added was "The Sheik in Florida on November 6th,  make it past him, then Charlie Haas in Texas november 13th! 2 tough battles!"

New Top Ten Thoughts

Before I get into the top ten rankings of the NWA, I want to plug real quick two things.

As some of you may know I do a weekly video show on Youtube called Wrestling Man's Wrestling Show where I cover just about as much wrestling as you can think of. To become a subscriber go to http://www.youtube.com/mrwrestlingman85 for my videos.

The other thing is this Saturday I will be providing my own play by play commentary of ROH's Glory by Honor IX. Go to http://www.stickam.com/wrestlingmanv2 to join up for all the fun and madness that will take place. It begins at 7:15 PM Eastern time.

Now, a lot has changed as far as rankings go in the NWA since I first wrote about the rankings. Let's take a look at the rankings as I give you my thoughts on the top ten.

10. Chance Prophet- The Current NWA DAWG Pound Heavyweight champion and former NWA National Heavyweight champion, he truly has the ability to challenge for the World Heavyweight title and win it. However, when he was National Heavyweight champion a lot of people including myself thought he was going to become the next champion before he was injured and had to forfeit the National Heavyweight title. While I think his ranking should be a bit higher, right now Chance is under the radar and all it takes is one big win and he is right back as a major name to mention for the title.

9. Antonio Thomas- He has dropped two spots in the rankings but remains in the top ten for his ability in the ring and charisma. How he has not received a title shot is amazing because he is so good and crisp in the ring. Will he ever get noticed by the NWA as a wrestler who is good enough to go for the title or will he just continue to be ignored?

8. Shane Haste- Still the man in Australia, his climb to the top will no doubt continue with each and every [victory.  The question must come up of if he wants to challenge for the Worlds Heavyweight title again, will or make the NWA Australia championship his goal?]

7. Sid Sylum- The current NWA Canadian Heavyweight champion, he is no doubt a contender for many other titles in the NWA, mainly the North American Heavyweight title. However, Sylum seems to be the kind of person who will not rush into going for a title and will cherish every single day his reign as the Canadian Heavyweight champion. There hasn't been a Canadian to have held the belt in three years is Sid Sylum the one to bring the World Heavyweight title back to the Great White North?

6. Shinsuke Nakamura- One of the best wrestlers currently in Japan, the fact that he doesn't have a title and is on this list is pretty amazing. It shows how good of a wrestler he truly is. While his focus right now might not be on the World Heavyweight title it must certainly be on the back of his mind. But the only way for him to start chasing that belt in my opinion is to regain the IWGP Heavyweight title from Togi Makabe and then start dominating as champion like he did in his previous reign. It's only a matter of time before he is at the top once again.

5. Charlie Haas- The former WWE superstar sure did give Adam Pearce a run for his money back in August. While that match ended in a double countout, Haas proved to everybody that he has the right stuff to become the World Heavyweight champion. And with his recent victory to become the Texas Heavyweight champion it may help him for a request of another shot at Adam Pearce and the title. While the rematch might not happen in Texas, Haas is certainly a man who deserves a second shot at the title.

4. Oliver John- The summer of 2010 is certainly a summer that Oliver John would soon love to forget. First, he loses the PWR Heavyweight title to Blue Demon Jr. and then loses the Heritage Heavyweight title to Atsushi Sawada, it does hurt his case for a shot at the World Heavyweight title. However, don't let these two loses change your mind as far as a contender goes because any man who can take Blue Demon Jr. to the limit and beyond certainly should have a look at with the title. Will the bad luck of Oliver John stop or will it continue as he could go down the rankings of the NWA?

3. Blue Demon Jr.- The former heavyweight champion right now might be taking a break on his quest to regain the ten pounds of gold but that doesn't mean that he's still keeping his eye out on not only Pearce but all the top contenders because whenever Blue Demon Jr. gets his rematch at the title it could very well be against anybody. He is an experienced wrestler and will study all tapes of whoever the champion might be and when the day comes he will be ready to go once again at the belt.

2. The Sheik- Of any wrestler on this list that deserves the next shot at Adam Pearce it is this man. 2010 has no doubt been his year, being the only wrestler in NWA history to hold a state, territory and continental title at the same time, The Sheik felt that he was being ignored. But when he knocked out Adam Pearce last month in Charlotte he put everybody on notice that he means business when it comes to the world title and that he wants the belt around his waist. But the question is how soon will Sheik get his shot? It depends on the schedule and contenders and hopefully, The Sheik will not be ignored.

1. Phil Shatter- The current NWA National Heavyweight champion still has his sights on Adam Pearce. Despite having two chances at the title within eight days, Shatter still does not have the title that he longs for. He might go down as the greatest National Heavyweight champion of all time and that's a nice feat in itself, but he wants something bigger and if given one more chance, like the old saying goes, maybe the third time will be the charm and he could become the World Heavyweight champion. But until then he will have to wait.

Which of these ten men will make the next move on there quest to becoming World Heavyweight champion? Only time will tell.

National Champion Phil Shatter to defend in NWA Southwest

The National Wrestling Alliance's National Title has a strong history in the state of Texas.  Since 1997 two very proud representatives from NWA Southwest have been National Champion.  Former NWA Southwest Texas Champion Kevin Northcutt proudly wore the National Title multiple times.  The man who beat Northcutt for the National Championship, Hotstuff Hernandez even traveled to Japan to defend the title against Shinya Hashimoto.  Both former Texas Heavyweight Champions went on to become the National Champions.  And on October 2nd for the NWA Southwest Road Show in Altus, Texas, the NWA National Heavyweight Championship returns to Texas.  And Phil Shatter in the same vein as Northcutt and Hernandez is powerful.  Shatter has had successful defenses against the likes of Caprice Coleman, Ace Rockwell, Gary Valiant, Truitt Fields, Orion Bishop, and event reinging NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce.  Shatter will make his first venture into the state of Texas coming off a heartbreaking loss his opportunity at the NWA World Championship with Adam Pearce at the NWA Legends Fan Fest, when the North American Champion attacked both Pearce and Shatter in the main event.

Which lucky NWA Southwest Superstar will get their opportunity at the National Championship?  Will it be NWA Texas Champion the "Largedor" Michael Faith?  Former Texas Champion Chad Thomas?  Maybe NWA-SW/WOW Champion Blue Demon Jr. or a new opponent all together.  Only time will tell.  But Phil Shatter might just find out that every thing is BIGGER in TEXAS.

Charlie Haas vs. Michael Faith for the NWA Texas Heavyweight Title

Two-time NWA Texas Champion Michael ‘The Largeador” Faith will make his first title defense September 4 versus the challenge of former WWE star Charlie Haas at NWA-SW’s Panhandle Wrestling affiliate in Amarillo, Texas.

Faith, who weighs 340 pounds, is one of the biggest wrestlers in Texas but extremely agile for his size. He is so agile he has toured Japan many times over the past two years as an American beast. He defeated the Texas legend Kevin Northcutt in 2009, and just recently Chad Thomas who won a match over Lance Cade in his final NWA appearance.

Cade was suppose to get a Texas title shot but passed away before the opportunity so his close friend Haas said he will win for both of them in Amarillo. “I don’t care how big Faith.....he has what belongs to us (Cade) and I am coming for it.”

Faith had been aiming at match with Cade for over three months, but said in all due respect he would have beat him had the match ever taken place. “Cade would have been a great match between two big heavyweights but as for Haas I got 80 pounds on him. He couldn’t even beat Adam Pearce….enough said!”

NWA-SW promoter Ken Taylor said championship matches like this one is what old school NWA wrestling is all about.

REVIEW of NWA Southwest's Parade of Champions X

The Following is a Review of NWA Southwest's Parade of Champions X by DKM.
So I went to my first live wrestling event in years to watch NWA champion Adam Pearce defend his title against Charlie Haas. I have already posted the results in the Results section of the board and these are just my thoughts on the experience.

My sister and I drove an hour and 20 minutes to find out my directions were to the wrong location. They were to the High School, not the High School Gymnasium (which in my experience is normally near the school). Thank goodness for smart phones as I was able to get the correct address and the phones GPS got us there quickly.

So we go in buy our tickets and as security asks that if we want to sit in the bleacher to sit on the far side across from the hard camera for the TV taping. Since there wasn’t a bad seat in the house we head that way. We stop and buy a program and go sit down. Both Charlie Haas and Matt Borne had their own tables. Instead of auctioning off Doink’s wig, they held a raffle to which I bought 3 tickets, but didn’t win.

Now I am terrible at crowd estimates and won’t attempt to make one other than to say it was a good draw for Texas at this time with this economy. It was a hot crowd that got into matches and there were a lot of families with kids.

At the start of the card wrestlers surrounded the ring for a 10-bell salute for Lance Cade, Jack Brisco (who was from Oklahoma), Grizzly Smith, and longtime fan Matt Vittitow.

That card was setup well, with each match progressing and being “better” than the one before it for the most part. For his age, Matt Borne can still kick ass pretty well. Baboose and Adam Pearce are both masters at working a crowd. They had the crowd hating them from the time they started to speak. Keep an eye on tag champs Pretty Flawless and new Jr champ Kevin Douglas. They got talent.

The Jr-heavyweight title match was the show stealer having the best action and comedy. “Family Friendly?” moment one came when Ann Dromeda and Gabe the Babe kissed Andy Dalton back to back. The other was when a bunch of kids from 6-12 years old started a “You Suck!” chant at Adam Pearce. It was golden to see the look on Pearce’s face. By the way Pearce has really grown in his role as champion and is one his way to becoming perhaps the best NWA Champion since its WCW days.

So I had a great time and that is all that really matters.

NWA Southwest's Parade of Champions X: Haas on Pearce

Charlie Haas addresses Adam Pearce's latest video after an unconventional workout in 106 degree North Texas heat preparing for his match on August 14, 2010, at the Parade of Champions in Gainesville, Texas. Rocky 4 type workout video to follow.

NWA World Champion Knocked Out

NWA Legends Fan Fest
Executive Director of the National Wrestling Alliance, Bob Trobich, was in utter disbelief over the ability of NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce who not only recovered from a sneak attack from the Sheik that left the Worlds Champion knocked out, but actually stepped into the ring at such a severe attack. "Holy Crap... He was out COLD yesterday. Just unbelievable," is what Bob told Alliance-Wrestling about the incident. NWA DAWG representative Jaden spoke to me last night and said "It was pretty scary. Pearce received medical attention ringside and we weren't even sure if a match was going to happen."
"Scrap Iron" has proven that his aptly titled nickname has never fit more.  Pearce has already worked a grueling schedule the past few weeks defending the NWA Worlds Title back to back on July 31st in Los Angeles, California and August 1st in Columbus Ohio.  In Ohio, Phil Shatter frustrated in the outcome of Pearce wining the match up, Powerbombed the World Champion after the match up was over.  August 7th, Adam Pearce faced his biggest challenge since regaining the championship in the "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson.  And Danielson went on to lose after being stuffed with one of Pearce's Piledrivers.   But last night the Madman from the Middle East took out some of his own frustrations on the Worlds Champion.  I attempted to reach out to the Sheik to find out why, he would attack the Worlds Champion?  All I heard from the Shiek's handlers is that he was unavailable for comment, but there will be a statement made this Wednesday.  Perhaps Sheik's real statement was made Sunday Night.  Obviously Adam wasn't in a very good mood.  But he did have this to say... "I'm fine... The Sheik will pay for what he's done. He f---ed with the wrong man."

The implications of this attack will be felt much longer than Sunday's match up.  Because it is only seven days before Adam is still scheduled to defend against Charlie Haas!  Ken Taylor sent me this message earlier this morning.  "I wish no injury to anyone but it is part of the business," said Haas after learning of the injury via phone, Monday morning. "I don't like the situation because now when he loses he can say it was because he wrestled still injured from his last match.  I don't want my greatest moment tarnished, so I hope he fully recovers by Saturday because I want to face and beat a 100% Adam Pearce."

Pearce was able to continue the match and the fight even when the Sheik interjected himself again in causing the match to become a no contest.  Pearce shook hands with Phil Shatter at the end of the match.  Everyone at Alliance-Wrestling wish the champion a speedy recovery and look forward to his match up with Charlie Haas August 14th in Gainsville Texas, for NWA Southwest's Parade of Champions X.
