4 Years Ago Today, the NWA and TNA end its 5 Year Agreement

“Ah camera man, I’m glad you are here,” said by the then independent wrestler who is synonymous with excellence, Bryan Danielson. He would continue with “I have a message for the NWA and all of the NWA fans. I have beaten all of the best wrestlers in the World; I've beaten Samoa Joe, Jushin Liger, Minoru Tanaka. I have beaten everyone, everywhere. I am the best. And now I am coming after the NWA World Heavyweight Championship."  It all started off so innocently. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship along with the NWA World Tag Team Championships had become somewhat exclusive to Total Non-Stop Action. TNA Wrestling and come to an agreement to lease the NWA Properties. Was this the lament of a man with bravado or was this the beginning to something none of us were expecting. Only on NWA Anniversary Shows and a rare NWA event the World Title on occasion would be defended outside of a TNA venue. But even then, the World Titles became increasingly more difficult for NWA Promoters to book. Around the same time there was speculation that TNA was growing frustrated by the demands of the NWA and even stopped referring to the Legendary 10lbs of Gold as the NWA Worlds Title and simply would call it the TNA World Title. Things changed dramatically on on this date, four years ago.  The NWA Titles would appear for the last time on TNA and the NWA would regain its freedom.

May 13th 2007. Prior to the TNA pay per view Sacrifice, via a YouTube video, the Executive Director for the National Wrestling Alliance Robert K. Trobich announces that the NWA and TNA have ended their 5 year professional relationship and that the NWA has officially striped both Christian Cage and Team 3D of the NWA Worlds Heavyweight and Tag Team Champions, respectively.

The fallout of this announcement would launch dozens of videos on YouTube of wrestlers from around the world asking for their opportunity to be included into the tournament to crown a new NWA Worlds Champion. Danielson would echo his sentiments about his desire to be champion in a second video. “I want, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. There are some who say it doesn't mean much anymore. That's a lie. That belt has more history than any belt in the history of pro-wrestling.”

Canadians Nelson Creed and Dru Onyx, Australia’s Bobby Jo Marshall, Mexico’s Nicho El Millonare along with names across the United States; Damien Wayne out of the Mid-Atlantic, Chad Pharam out of Georgia, Chance Prophet out of West Virgina, Aaron Aguilera and Adam Pearce out of Southern California, Karl Anderson out of the Midwest, and even Awesome Kong, the dominant woman’s wrestler out of Japan.

The finals of the tournament would come down to four men, Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson.  After a career threatening injury Danielson was replaced by Pearce.  And Pearce would go on to defeat Albright and go on to defend the title 33 times in a twelve month period.  Many would believe that this would be the return of NWA.

Complex forging of [NWA Worlds Champion] Adam Pearce

On the surface, that might make “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce sound like something of a walking paradox. But as you peel away the layers, you understand it's more a matter of Pearce not fitting any one category.


“I was voted ‘Class Non-Conformist’ my senior year because I kind of did things as I wanted, and authority was the one thing I seemed to always have issues with. I guess some things never change,” Pearce told SLAM! Wrestling.

Canoe--Slam is one of the best websites dedicated to wrestling. And although its a Canadian website, they've got pro-wrestling in the US covered. Although the article talks heavily about his duties in ROH, it gives a great recap of the career of Adam Pearce and a lead into the next title defense at the NWA Legends Fan Fest against Bryan Danielson. If Pearce is successful in his defense this Saturday he will be defending against the winner of the Legends Cup the following night.  It should be also noted that the World Champion is scheduled to appear at NWA Southwest, a mere week away from Saturday.  I also found it interesting to read about Pearce's early days, getting opportunities to work in Europe, his time at the Power Plant, and his rise in the NWA.  I almost forgot that Adam Pearce appeared in the NWA Sanctioned New Japan Pro Wrestling.    

Adam Pearce is a Dead Man! Or my preview of the next 3 weeks of NWA World Championship Matches

Anyone familiar with this website or myself would know that I'm a staunch supporter of the reigning Worlds Heavyweight Champion, "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce. But even I have to second guess the Worlds Champion grueling schedule for the month of August. And with each grain of sand that drops, Adam Pearce's reign as Worlds Heavyweight Champion could be drawing to an end.

It is a fairly common understanding that the World Champion must defend his title no less than once a month. And under the current direction of the National Wrestling Alliance, the World Champion is usually given a little leeway on these rules. Previous champions have really only averaged a defenses a month. But since March, "Scrap Daddy" has defended that title quite regularly and more than he has had too. Winning the title in March, defending once in April, twice in May, and three times in June. And as July comes to an end, the World Champion will defend for the second time tomorrow night and then fly directly to Columbus Ohio to defend again on Sunday. That's not all, because only a mere seven days of back to back defense against two apt opponents, Adam defends against two more opponents at the NWA Legends Fan Fest. If those defenses are successful, he faces yet another opponent a mere week after that.

Ryan Taylor is quite possibly the most underrated challenger to the champion in the series of defenses. Taylor is a young, hungry pro wrestler based out of the NWA Pro affiliate Empire Pro Wrestling. Taylor rose quickly through the ranks of the EWF, having held each of the EWF Championship titles. He currently holds the Empire Heavyweight Championship and is a former NWA Heritage Champion. Taylor has had opportunities to wrestle for the Worlds Championship before against Blue Demon Jr., so he isn't new to the look and feel of BIG MATCHES. Taylor even once faced off against the WWE's Big Show on an episode of Smackdown.  And Taylor has spent the last 60 days preparing for this showdown. Taking matches with wrestler who are physically bigger, matches against guys like Shaun Rickers and Tommy Wilson, have helped prepare Ryan Taylor for his opportunity against Pearce. Taylor is known for his fast paced style that could upset a champion over-looking the man standing across from him in the ring. These two will meet at Millennium Pro Wrestling's Return of the Scrap Iron.  This show is a homecoming event of sorts for Adam Pearce as it was MPW where Adam first returned to pro-wrestling after taking a sabbatical from the sport in the early 2000 and I wouldn't be surprised if the Los Angeles crowd lends its support to the World Champion.  Could Ryan upset the Worlds Champion?  

Escape Los Angeles and even bigger challenge awaits him in Columbus Ohio at the Fairgrounds when he takes on a Goliath of a man, "The Universal Soldier" Phil Shatter.  Unlike Ryan Taylor, Phil Shatter will not utilize speed to gain an upper hand on Adam Pearce.  No, Shatter will use brute force, smash mouth style of wrestling.  Make no mistake about it, Shatter has been hungry for his opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship for a long time.  And again unlike Ryan Taylor, Shatter has a victory over Adam Pearce.  But even more so that that, Phil Shatter has held the National Championship since January 19th 2009 and for over a year and a half, Shatter has dominated the title.  "The Universal Soldier" has defended his National Championship in Hollywood, Cornelia, Atlanta, McKeesport, Charlotte, and Lebanon.  Shatter's resume also reflects championship titles victories in NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Championship, NWA Mid-Atlantic Heritage Championship, and NWA Anarchy Tag Team Championship, along with several appearances for TNA Impact.  Phil Shatter appeared on one of the earlier episodes of Alliance Radio and said this prior to his first one on one meeting with Adam Pearce, "I have a lot of pride in how I  work in the ring... I will be seen as the Number One contender to that Worlds Heavyweight Championship.  Which is my ultimate goal to be the NWA World Champion." However, lets not us forget that Adam Pearce had to go through Mr. Shatter to become a three time NWA World Champion.  The resourceful champion has gotten passed bigger men in the past, but could this be Shatter's time,  to strike while the iron is hot?  Pearce will be jet lagged from his trip from Los Angeles to Columbus, this could be the opportunity that Shatter has been looking for.  This Sunday, might just be the last time the National Champion might get the opportunity to face the Worlds Champion.  And this match happens at the JD Equipment Coliseum, at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus.  Tickets are ten dollars for general admission and fifteen dollars for ringside.  This Sunday, might just be the last time the National Champion might get the opportunity to face the Worlds Champion.  And this match happens at the JD Equipment Coliseum, at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus.  Tickets are ten dollars for general admission and fifteen dollars for ringside.  

I am not one to doubt the Worlds Champion, but if he survives against former NWA Heritage Champion, Ryan Taylor and if he can somehow outlast the NWA National Champion Phil Shatter, Adam Pearce walks into his biggest challenge of them all.  Bryan Danielson.  Just typing his name sends a shiver down my spine as it probably does to the World Champion as well.  Adam Pearce even made mention of it in a recent interview that he has yet to defeat Bryan Danielson on a one on one match up.  The NWA Website posted this picture of Bryan Danielson and asked "Does Pearce Need to Worry?"  The answer is yes.  Hell yes!  When the NWA reclaimed the World Heavyweight Championship one of the front runners in the tournament was the "American Dragon."  A seasoned veteran who traveled the globe, Bryan Danielson has held championships just about anywhere he has wrestled.  IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champion, ROH Pure Champion, PWG World Champion, ROH World Champion, NOAH Jr. Champion, and countless other championships across the world.  The personification of professional wrestling.  The finals of the NWA World Title Tournament were set when Bryan Danielson defeated Adam Pearce to take on Brent Albright.  A freak injury kept Danielson out of the tournament and away from the championship.  Pearce capitalizing on Danielson misfortune became the champion and never looked back.  Many in the NWA have thought of "What If" scenarios through out the years, but nothing can take away the fact that Danielson lost his opportunity.  Only a few years later Danielson was announcing his acceptance of a WWE Contract and he would say goodbye to the indys, much like CM Punk before him.  Months would pass and we would hear nothing of Bryan Danielson, until his debut on WWE programing, NXT.  The 10 year veteran as the role of a Rookie, eliminated by a faux pas on a live microphone. Only to return, to be fired again for being "Too Violent."  Danielson returns to the NWA at NWA Legends Fanfest a shot to wrestle for the World Championship, if not for a slight twist of fate, could have been his nearly six years ago.  Could August 7th validate the Worlds Championship belt around Adam Pearce's waist or will Bryan Danielson help cater a new era into the World of the National Wrestling Alliance.  Regardless of who wins this match, the champion will wrestle a mystery opponent the next night.  Unbelievable.

To cap off the multiple defenses, in Gainsville Texas, at NWA Southwest  Parade of Champions X, Adam will be putting the "Legendary 10lbs. of Gold" against former WWE Superstar, Charlie Haas.  And there is no denying that Charlie Haas won the lottery of scheduling, regardless of who walks into Gainesville as champion, be it Taylor, Shatter, Danielson, the Mystery Opponent, or Adam Pearce, the champion will not have worked a very tough schedule  to reach the Parade of Champions X.  And as he alluded to on Alliance Radio, Charlie Haas expects whomever his opponent is too "Tap, Snap, or Nap!"  Haas feels good and is ready to take the next step in his career.  And his next step is NWA World Championship.  Pearce has faced guys like Haas in the past and has had struggles with them.  Adam Pearce was defeated by Brent Albright for the NWA World Championship.  And Pearce also had difficulties getting past TNA's Desmond Wolfe when they faced off in Dayton Ohio during a title defense in Ring Of Honor.  Adam sent me a written statement from the road on his thoughts on his opponent at Parade of Champions X. “Charlie Haas is a top-notch, first class competitor.  And his accolades don’t need to be embellished as they are impressive and speak for themselves.  I look forward to August 14 in Texas, because it will be a clash of two men from two different worlds in this generation, with the oldest prize at stake.  And that alone is worthy of the ticket price.”  There is no doubt that Haas will make a great opponent for the champion, the question remains, who will be the champion August 14th?

    

Since 2007 when holding the World Championship, Adam Pearce has defended the title successfully in California, North Carolina, Texas, Indiana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virgina, Oklahoma, Virgina, Ohio, Tennessee, Minnesota, Kansas, Arizona and Manitoba Canada, 23 different opponents over 32 different matches. "Scrap Iron" is the twelfth longest reigning champion in the history of the World Championship more and more days than any other champion in the modern era with the exception of Jeff Jarret and Dan Severn.  Sean Waltman, Desmond Wolfe, Sicodelico Jr., Babi Slymm, Damien Wayne, TJ Perkins, Sterling James Knight, "Boogie Woogie Boy" Gary Valiant, Scorpio Sky, Shane Haste, Tommy Wilson, Bam Neely, Michael Strider, Danny Duggan, Joey Ryan, and Johnny Goodtime couldn't take the NWA World Championship off of Adam Pearce.  And the course of the next 3 weeks, Pearce will take on some of the best wrestlers in the World.  In three weeks will the NWA World Champion usher in a new era or will "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce solidify his 3rd Reign as the greatest World Champion in the modern era.

Thoughts on rankings and chase for the 10 lbs. of gold

Before I begin I would like to thank Jay Cal and everybody at alliance-wrestling.com for giving me an opportunity to write blogs for this fantastic website. My first blog that I'm going to write about, and will probably be a theme for me are the look at the top ten rankings in the NWA plus the serious challengers for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, held currently by Adam Pearce. The hunt for the 10 lbs. of gold has not been this exciting, this thrilling and this entertaining since the NWA Heavyweight title was in TNA. Adam Pearce, who has been a great representative of not only the title but the NWA itself has not been a classic champion. He has faced all challenges and still has the title. But let's take a look at each guy in the top ten and how they could figure into an already heavy chase.

10. Lance Cade.

The former WWE Superstar and trainee of Shawn Michaels is a world traveler. He's been in Canada, Europe, Japan, Mexico and more. His size and power is a good characteristic for a contender at the World title. Currently in NWA Southwest, his goal is set at the Texas Heavyweight Championship currently held by Chad Thomas. If Lance Cade can capture the Texas Heavyweight title then not only will he move up in the rankings but will also have more eyes looking at him as a serious contender to Adam Pearce and the title. But for right now, Cade is at a good spot but one huge title win gets him into serious talk.

9. Shane Haste.

Currently one half of the EPW Tag Team Champions in Australia, Shane Haste is one of the best wrestlers currently wrestling in the land down under. Unlike Cade, Haste's looks might not be able to help his case chasing the gold. At only 6'2" and 205 lbs. he might not be thought of as a serious threat to the NWA World Heavyweight title. But like the old saying goes, great things come in small packages and Shane Haste might be that great thing that could not only bring him fame but also bring the NWA World Heavyweight title to Australia for the very first time.

8. Robbie Hart.

The current NWA Australian Heavyweight Champion is an individual who could also represent Australia as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Since his win back on March 20th he has been on a roll. Nobody has been able to stop him and it can only get better for the champion. Can Robbie make it all the way to the World title or are there road blocks along the way for Robbie Hart?

7. Antonio Thomas.

Another former WWE Superstar, Thomas has been making a name for himself all over New England. Also a former NWA Liberty States (currently On Fire) Heavyweight champion, he has a lot of great talent and potential to challenge Pearce. Go all over not only the United States but the world as well to chase him for the title. A veteran of nine years, Thomas could be the guy that gets the job done and takes "Charlotte" away from Pearce.

6. Sid Sylum.

Sid pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year when he defeated Scotty Mac on April 10th of this year to become NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion. When he defeated Mac, who had held the title for almost two years, Sylum not only took the title but also took what could've been a huge opportunity for Mac. Now it's Sid Sylum's turn. He represents all of Canada and would make a great representative as NWA World Heavyweight Champion. 2010 has been Sid's year so far, can he continue making it his year by becomming the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion as well as NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion?

5. Blue Demon Jr.

The former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon does have a right to a rematch against Adam Pearce since he was the former champion. It's just a matter of when and if Adam Pearce will give him his rematch. As the current head man in NWA Mexico his time for a title shot may have to wait for a little bit. Also that could delay that is Oliver John, one of his most hated enemies. Oliver John may take Demon's attention away from his hunt to regain the NWA World Heavyweight title but being the professional he is, Blue Demon Jr. will get right back on track for a chance to regain the title no matter what happens to Oliver John.

4. The Sheik

A wrestler that may get some votes as wrestler of the year in the NWA, The Sheik did something this year that nobody has ever done before. He held at one point in time, the Florida, Midwest and North American Heavyweight titles. No wrestler has ever held a state, regional and national title at the same time and it might be a long time before anybody does. The Sheik has been going all over the United States defending the North American title. The Sheik is the kind of wrestler who if given one chance, just one, could take away the NWA World Heavyweight title from Adam Pearce. Plus, with his array of weapons and fireball The Sheik is an unpredictable wrestler who can pull anything out at anytime. If given the chance, will The Sheik pull something out to become NWA World Heavyweight champion? If given a chance.

3. Shinsuke Nakamura.

Even though he is returning from injury, he has accomplished a lot of things in his career. A former U-30 champion, co holder of the IWGP Tag Team titles and IWGP Heavyweight champion he may be the most serious threat to Adam Pearce and his title. Nakamura could also become the first Japanese NWA World Heavyweight Champion since the late Shinya Hashimoto won the title nine years ago. But as mentioned, he is returning from an injury and his shoulder could play a part in any hope of getting a title shot. If he was not coming back from an injury, he might very well be number one in the rankings and maybe in line for a shot. Instead, he's got some work to do to not only get back to the top of New Japan Pro Wrestling but to also get into the conversation of the NWA World Heavyweight title.

2. Oliver John.

Before Adam Pearce defeats Blue Demon Jr. in Charlotte this past April, the closest man to beating Demon for the title is Oliver John. At one point, he even laid claim to being the NWA World Heavyweight champion although he didn't win the title. If he can defeat Blue Demon Jr. in Mexico then Oliver John may very well be the number one contender and the next one in line for a title shot. However, if he loses to Blue Demon Jr. then it's going to be a long climb to get back into the talk for a title shot.

1. Phil Shatter.

If you saw the three way elimination match for the NWA World Heavyweight title back in April a lot of people thought that Shatter had won the title. But instead, Adam brought a shoulder up and has the title. Phil Shatter has been the National Heavyweight champion since January 19, 2009 and has defended the title against everybody!!! He has been easily the best National Heavyweight champion since Chance Prophet and may very well go down in history as the greatest NWA National Heavyweight champion. But a wrestlers career is sometimes not defined by being the greatest holder of a title, it is defined by becomming NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Phil gets his chance on August 1st in Ohio when he faces Adam Pearce. If he wins the title he will join an elite group of all time greats and hall of famers. But if not, will he ever get another shot at the title? Only time will tell.

Before I end this blog, I wanted to talk about real quick two men who have title shots coming up in August. On Saturday August 7th, Adam Pearce defends the title against Bryan Danielson, a man who many thought including myself back in 2007, would be NWA World Heavyweight champion. But an eye injury forced him out of the tournament and it seemed like we would never know if he would get a shot. Now he gets his shot in front of not only the fans but some of the biggest names in wrestling history. But if Adam Pearce survives that night, he's got another title defense on August 8th against an unknown opponent. Could it be Phil Shatter? Who knows it remains to be seen.

Then, in Texas on August 14th it's Charlie Haas. A former collegiate wrestler and WWE Champion, Haas has the wrestling ability to take the title away from Pearce. With his family in the building on that night it will be the biggest match in Charlie Haas' life. Can he get the job done? Can he become the next NWA World Heavyweight champion?

There you have it. Each of these men can become champion but some will fall and others will rise to the occasion. No matter who challenges Pearce for the title it will be a fight and it will be remembered for a long time.

New Challenger Announced for NWA Legends Fan Fest: Or the Return of Bryan Danielson.

At the center of the WWE NXT rookies' dismantling of John Cena two weeks ago on Monday Night RAW, and now the most widely sought-after free agent in wrestling, Bryan Danielson comes to the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest Weekend August 5-8, not only to sign autographs and take photos with fans, but also to challenge for the National Wrestling Alliance's top prize.

Widely touted as the best wrestler in the world and performing in front of many legends and former world champs here in Charlotte, "The American Dragon" will face current NWA World Heavyweight champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce in the main event of our live matches Saturday night, August 7.

Bryan Danielson signs deal with WWE!!!

I was pleased and a little sadden to hear the announcement regarding Bryan Danielson and his free agency. Now that the American Dragon is an exclusive WWE wrestler he'll join the likes of CM Punk and Matt Sydal as wrestlers who joined the WWE after working in Ring of Honor. Danielson had held the short-lived Pure Wrestling title and the ROH World title.

Danielson's in-ring work is amazing. And with a list of trainers that include William Regal, NWA Hall of Famer Bobby Eaton, WWE Legend Shawn Michaels, Masato Tanaka, and Tracy Smothers there is no doubt that his style is a lot different from the typical WWE style.

I have followed Bryan Danielson career fairly closely. I was in attendance the night Bryan Danielson defeated APW Internet Heavyweight Champion Super Dragon. I was also in attendance the night that Bryan Danielson was so close to defeating NJPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion HEAT for his title. Dragon has always put on great matches whether he was in the main event or opening the show. With a plethora of opponents.

The American Dragon started his career with the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy. Danielson started at that school with other notable names as former WWE stars Brian Kendrick, Paul London, and Lance Cade, TNA wrestler Shawn Hernandez and former TNA wrestler Matt Bentley. Danielson made his first appearance in Japan teaming with Lance Cade for FMW. Danielson spent a lot of time in the WWE farm system originally in Memphis Championship Wrestling. It was after the MCW experience that Bryan Danielson began working Independent Dates across the United States and Canada. Danielson appeared for APW's King of the Indies and work in many promotions from All Pro Wrestling to EPIC, NWA ECCW, Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, NJPW/USA, New Japan Pro Wrestling, NOAH, FIP, and far too many to mention. While wining championships across the World, Danielson established his name as one of the greatest of our era. Unfortunately Danielson was booked in 2 Matches that I always wanted to see, but they were never meant to be. Bryan Danielson, who at the time was more commonly referred to as American Dragon was team take on Ultimo Dragon and Southern California Indy sensation Super Dragon in a battle of the Dragons. The match never happened due to complications with the wrestling promoter. Dragon was also supposed to battle Brent Albright for the NWA World Title. Unfortunately that match never happened either. Danielson was injured the week before in a ROH World Title match and forfeited his spot to would be champion, Adam Pearce. So although its great to see Danielson head to the WWE, I will miss his action in the NWA, PWG, and ROH. Here's hoping to the best for the American Dragon! Cheers.

Congrats to Bryan Danielson

The would be successor to the National Wrestling Alliance World Championship has obtained championship in a Ring of Honor ring, for NOAH Pro Wrestling. Danielson defeated the JR. Global Honor Champion, Yoshinobu Kanemaru with the Cattle Mutilation in front of 1,150 people to become the only 2nd American Born wrestler to hold such a title. Although Danielson hasn't been in an NWA Ring lately, we here at the Alliance would like to congratulate the champion and look forward to his lengthy reign.

NWA France's Euroresu 2008

The International Catch Wrestling Alliance, more commonly referred to NWA France recently held its annual event at the Japanese Expo in France. NWA France has now participated in the event for a 3rd year in a row. This year's showcase was mixed with both Women and Men's wrestling with training seminars. The international talent included “Spider Lady” Mariko Yoshida, Misaki Ohata, a masked Chad Malenko "Metal Master" and a masked Bryan Danielson "American Dragon. The series of matches started on July 3 and concluded on July 6th.

The Finals of the Women's Matches was “Spider Lady” Mariko Yoshida beats “English Pink” Sweet Saraya. And "Metal Master" defeated "American Dragon" in the Male Tournament Finals.

World Championship Match: Pearce vs. Danielson

One hundred percent of The Alliance readers have voted. In the first ever land slide poll on this Blog, the fans demand to see Bryan Danielson versus Adam Pearce.

Bryan Danielson has perfected his craft through out the years in various territories and for numerous promotions. Danielson early days started as he trained with WWE's Shawn Michaels and trained next to, two current WWE Superstars now in Brian "Spanky Kendrick and Lance Cade. The three trained with Shawn Michaels and Rudy Gonzales at the Texas Wrestling Academy. November 11th, 1999, The American Dragon, Lance Cade, and Shawn Michaels traveled to Japan to compete for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FWM.) Not only was this Danielson's first match in Japan, which would be repeated multiple times, but was also met with much success. Cade and Danielson beat the team of Mammoth Sasaki & Naohiko Yamazaki.

After signing a developmental deal with WWE, the trio were shipped to Memphis Championship Wrestling and under the tutelage of William Regal and Bobby Eaton, Danielson was developing a style that would make him one of the most dominant Indy wrestlers the United States has ever seen. Danielson was released by the WWE and soon became a regular in Northern California's APW. Becoming the King of the Indies in 2001 and becoming one of the corner stones to Ring of Honor. It wasn't long before Danielson was being booked on both coasts with Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, New Japan/USA and various others. It also wasn't long before Danielson was becoming a global phenomenon. Danielson would go on to wrestle in England, Germany, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Danielson was a hot commodity. Eventually Danielson was Heavyweight Champion in Ring of Honor, Heavyweight Champion in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, competing for NOAH, in Japan, and solidifying his claim to be the greatest wrestler in the World.

Then the day came... the challenge was made.

On August 18, Danielson defeated Adam Pearce in the semifinals of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament. He was scheduled to face Brent Albright for the title in Puerto Rico on September 1st. However, on August 25, Danielson fought Morishima in an attempt to regain the ROH World Title. He lost in what was immediately described as one of the best matches in the promotion's history. During this match, he suffered an orbital fracture and a retina injury. The NWA announced on August 27th that due to the injury, Danielson would be unable to compete in the September 1st title match, and that Adam Pearce would be selected in his place to face Albright. Danielson was later chosen to be the special referee for the bout as announced on August 30 at NWAWrestling.com. Danielson made the pin with supposedly both men's shoulders on the mat, yet awarding the win and thus the belt to Adam Pearce.*

Now a little less than six months later, Danielson has yet been given a title shot. Even when 40%** of the NWA Message Board fans predicted him to win the title. Even when he already had defeated Adam Pearce. And with all of this, nobody has booked this match. With this much history nobody has volunteered to host this match. Pearce continues to face all comers. Yet not one promotion sanctioned by the NWA has booked "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson to face the Heavyweight Champion of the World, "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce.

And then their was one... a NEW Australian National Champion

Eight wrestlers battled for top supremacy in a one night tournament. Mikey Nicholls defeated Jimmy Payne, Rocky Romero, and Bobby Marshall to becoming the first National Heavyweight Champion of Australia. A Championship that is on par with NWA UK's National Champion Johnny Moss, NWA Canada's National Champion Cole Bishop and of course the United States National Champion, Pepper Parks. This victory makes Nicholls a perennial opponent for NWA World Champion, Scrap Iron Adam Pearce.
The second night of the NWA Tour, Nicholls accepted the challenge of American Dragon, Bryan Danielson. Danielson is a World Champion contender in his own right was defeated by Everybody's favorite Superhero, Mikey Nicholls. The defeat of Bryan Danielson, lends instant credibility to the newly created title.

Charlotte, NC (August 27, 2007) – Due to an injury sustained over the weekend, and emergency eye surgery this morning, “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson has been eliminated from the NWA World Championship Tournament Finals set to take place this Saturday September 1 in Puerto Rico. The decision to remove Danielson was made by the NWA Board of Directors after Executive Director Robert K. Trobich conducted several conversations with Danielson’s physicians.

When reached for comments Trobich said “I have been on the phone all day with Bryan Danielson and his doctors. Bryan has been literally begging to be permitted to wrestle in the NWA title tournament final this Saturday in Puerto Rico against Brent Albright. Like all wrestling fans, I was eagerly anticipating the first-ever match-up between two world-class warriors like Danielson and Albright, with the biggest prize in wrestling hanging in the balance. However, as gutsy a fighter as Bryan is, there is simply no way he can be medically cleared to fight in this match after such serious surgery. Brent Albright deserves his shot at the belt, now, however. In that regard, after hours of discussions with the NWA board, I have decided that the title match will go on as scheduled, and Adam Pearce, who just met Danielson in a hotly-contested semifinal match ten days ago, will step into the final in Danielson's place.”

Everyone in the National Wrestling Alliance wishes Danielson a safe and speedy recovery.

After that announcement from Robert K. Trobich Pearce had been down, but not out. Pearce Daddy was previously eliminated from the tournament. He was pinned by Bryan Danielson in Canada. But Danielson who was injured via a Lariat from ROH's Morshima sent Danielson on the DL. With Danielson out, Adam Pearce had the opportunity to come up big. Scrap Iron made the best of a bad situation and will now be the most watned man in the NWA.

DANIELSON HEADS TO PUERTO RICO

Charlotte, NC (August 18, 2007) – Tonight in Vancouver BC, “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson pinned “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce when Pearce went for a figure-four leg lock and Danielson countered with a small package in 22:00. The results of this match sets the Championship match for September 1, 2007 against “Shooter” Brent Albright in Puerto Rico.

Later this week NWA Executive Director Robert K. Trobich will have full details on the venue and comments on the future of the National Wrestling Alliance.

NWA World Title Finals are set... why are you complaining???

So the NWA Finals are set. People are complaining about a Ring of Honor Finals. I don't know how you can complain about Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Claudio Castagnoli, and Bryan Danielson. There are many complaints about how could the NWA lend its credence to an all ROH Finals. But the bottom line is that these guys are far from exclusive to Ring Of Honor. And even more important, do you really believe the NWA would put itself into the same scenario. I give the Board a lot more credit than that.

But I digress, who would you want to take the place of the finals? Buff Bagwell? Rick Stiener? Lex Luger? Come on. This is beyond ridiculous. Lets just sit back and enjoy what the NWA is putting out.

I'm backing Pearce. I suggest you do the same. OR WOULD YOU RATHER SEE LUGER IN THE NWA AGAIN???

The NWA and TNA end the 5 Year Relationship.

The split finally happened. Bob Trobich has taken its recognition away from TNA Wrestling. Effective May 13th Christian Cage was stripped of the Worlds Title. A tournament will be held to crown the next Worlds Champion.The only announced match for this tournament is scheduled for June 16th at the Russian Community Centre in Vancouver, BC, Canada. That match will pit "Bomber" Nelson Creed vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson. The only other announced wrestler to compete in this tournament is "the Shooter" Brent Albright. Albright was known to some as Gunner Scott in the WWE where he wrestled in both Ohio Valley and later Smackdown. His match an opponent have yet to be announced.Nelson Creed has had a series of great matches against "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce. His role in this tournament will ultimately be under dog because he must face who many consider the odds on favorite to win the entire match, Bryan Danielson. Danielson held the Ring of Honors version of the World title along with competing against some of the best names all across the globe. Creed is no push over, but Danielson will have to be on his A-Game to ge a W against the "Bomber.""the Shooter" earned his way into the tournament by winning the NWA-UCW Heavyweight Champion. By defeating Ricco Valentino, Albright earned his spot in the tournament. Albright looks to use this momentum to the next level, but is at odds, because his opponent, match date, and location have yet to be revealed. As always I'll keep you updated.
