Scorpio Sky: Fifth Entrant into the Revival NWA World Jr. Tournament

Conditioning. You will probably not find a more finer tuned athlete than Scorpio Sky. And a tournament for the World Junior Heavyweight Championship is exactly up his alley. It was at the finale of NWA Pro/AWS Record Breaking 159 Person Battle Royal that spanned three rings, "The King of Sting" out lasted all the competition. Sky started off the New Year by winning the NWA Pro/Mach-1 Junior Heavyweight Tournament "New Year's Cup" out lasting some of the top Junior Heavyweights in Southern California.  Photos from the event can be seen here.  Scorpio Sky also competed in NWA Pro/Mach-1's 2nd Tournament of the Year, and won his second tournament for NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood "Becoming The Star" and winning the International Television Championship. However, Sky isn't just an accomplished wrestler, he just competed in his first MMA Fight, scoring the victory via TKO while Sky was doing the ground and pound.  Sky's list of achievements can go all day long.  But on October 7th, in NWA Country, Scorpio Sky will join the likes of Kevin Douglas, Chase Owens, Tony Kozina, and Mike Posey in an effort to crown the New NWA Worlds Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Last week we spoke briefly about World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Challenger Kevin Douglas, who recently added another trophy in his quest, the NWA Houston Jr. Championship.  We ran down the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood's final four of the "Be The Star" Tournament.  A member of the NWA Mountain State production, Scott Greg, joined us to talk about what's going with wrestling in West Virgina, then to talk about the showdown that was expected on July 31st at the Ohio State Fair.  

This week, joining the Talk NWA program will be referee extraordinaire, Brandon Tolle, he  has officiated Championship Matches with the titles of ROH, TNA, CZW, FIP, along with many NWA Matches.  Chances are if you've seen a NWA Worlds Championship Match on the East Coast, Brandon Tolle was the man calling the match, right down the middle.   Tolle will be joining the podcast to talk about The Ohio State Fair, The NWA Legends Fanfest, his experiences officiating some of the biggest modern day matches in the NWA and we'll be taking your phone calls.

HOLLYWOOD, CA – June 7, 2011 – The first round of the 'BE THE STAR' Television Tournament was chock full of surprises and unexpected results! Perceived favorites did not advance as Joey Ryan was eliminated by SoCal Crazy, making this tournament the most unpredictable in NWA Hollywood history. Signed for July 10th and tour eleventh KDOC-TV taping is the semi-final round, with two bouts scheduled to pair the field down even further. With the semi-final match-ups announced, the final four competitors can now game plan for who they could be facing in the final round. Stakes are as high as ever with these four men all sharing the same goal: The NWA International Television Title!

NWA Hollywood Announces ‘BE THE STAR’ Television Championship Qualifiers

HOLLYWOOD, CA – May 10, 2011 – NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood is proud to announce the “Be The Star” Television Tournament, beginning at this Sunday’s NWA and KDOC-TV Los Angeles television tapings at the Showcase Theater in Hollywood.BeTheStar

“We’re excited to introduce this new concept on the television program,” said David Marquez; Executive Producer. “It will present a brand-new motivation to each and every one of our competitors looking for a chance at the NWA World’s Heavyweight Title. Becoming the ‘Be The Star’ TV champion will catapult a wrestler to a new prominence and immediately raise their standing within the NWA.”

The inaugural “Be The Star” Television Champion will be crowned after an Eight-Man Single Elimination tournament, and wrestlers will have to win a preliminary qualifying bout in order to enter the “Be The Star” tournament. These eight preliminary qualifying bouts will take place THIS SUNDAY as part of the ninth ‘Championship Wrestling from Hollywood’ tapings.

“There is no down time for the Stars of NWA Hollywood,” said Joseph Franciosi; Producer. “The competition begins now, and once we know our eight tournament competitors, the stakes rise again, and everyone at NWA Hollywood is very excited.”

With that, NWA Hollywood has released the first three qualifying bouts taking place this Sunday:

Nick Madrid v. Austin Aries

Scorpio Sky v. Cedric the Hitman

Willie Mack v. Joey Kaos

The Mack/Kaos qualifier has a ton of history behind it and was already scheduled to be a stipulation match. NWA Hollywood officials insist that this added qualifying caveat only raises the stakes even higher between the men, and the final stipulations for their bout will be announced LIVE at the taping.

“This is an exciting time,” offered Marquez. “Rivalries and friendly competitions are one thing, but the advent of this championship will have a much greater impact on the futures of our wrestlers. These qualifying bouts at the Showcase this weekend will set the table for the final eight men, and from there it’s anyone’s game.”

Producer David Lagana may have said it best: “In the ‘City of Angels’ where everyone chases the big dream, eight men will battle to find out who is truly the ‘Star of Hollywood’.”
