New Talent to debut for NWA Pro Australia, but not new to the NWA.

At NWA Pro Wrestling Australia a new #1 contender to the NWA Australian National Championship, currently around the waste of Hartley Jackson, will be named through an 8 Man Tournament. Wrestlers from across Australia will get an opportunity to be named the top contender to the gold. But two of the names will be very familiar to NWA Wrestling fans in the United States, New Jersey to be more precise.

Competing in New Jersey working with Ring of Honor, Chikara, and Combat Zone Wrestling, Australian Natives, Ryan Eagles and Jack Bonza were perfecting their craft in the United States. Both had been actively competing in Australia's PWA, but where looking for additional opportunities in the States. NWA DAWG Representative Jaden said "I think its great that these guys came over here looking to expand their horizons." Jaden would continue to say "Ryan Eagles and Jack Bonza were both very talented." They both competed on the same team during an 8 man tag team match for NWA Vintage, prior to its closing and were both expected to participate in an upcoming NWA DAWG show.

While in New Jersey Ryan Eagles had impressed many in the NWA New Jersey area. Eagles was originally scheduled to take on Damien Wayne on May 21st for the NWA DAWG Championship but wasn't cleared to wrestle and was replaced.

Jack Bonza is a name that should be with NWA Fans in Arizona and California. Bonza was a regular tag team partner with Shane Haste in Arizona and even appeared on the NWA Showcase back in 2008.

Both men have the opportunity of a LIFE TIME June 25th at Ground Zero.

Awe Inspiring: An interview with EPW's Shane Haste

Shane Haste made his debut in early 2003 and over the following eight years has travelled around the country and throughout the United States and being the first West Australian based wrestler to get his name on the PWI 500. Tez got the opportunity to speak with the former EPW champion to get his thoughts on his career to date. Not long after this interview was conducted, Haste along with Mikey Nicholls went to Japan to work with Pro Wrestling NOAH.

Foreword: So because I’m a big shot (douchebag with an ego) I thought I’d do a quick foreword for this interview. This interview is full of a lot of horrible ramblings and things that probably don’t make sense. I wanted to put a lot of stuff in here you probably wouldn’t hear from me usually cause you never know when I might get asked stuff again and I’ll probably forget some of these stories (laughs). So be warned I’m not a professional writer, I’m not very smart and I forget proper details of stories and even the question sometimes halfway through answering them. WPW: Can you tell us a bit of the background about how you got into EPW and when you first started training?

HASTE: Well I always loved wrestling as a kid, I didn’t get to see much of it apart from what was on TV (like when Channel 9 used to have WCW on at like 4 in the arvo). So growing up I would always wrestle around with my mates, jumping off couches and generally annoying my parents.

Eventually in high school I started doing the backyard thing (with a few faces that are still around today). And yeah then ECW started up and we went to every show and I thought as soon as I can I’m gonna train there. So I was at the first training camp along with such people as Kiel, Tommy Cartel and I’m pretty sure even Mr. Brett Corvus was there. It was hell, but was awesome fun, there were like 20 odd people there (and I mean odd in both ways) and I got told I was welcome to train.

So I busted my ass off working to save the money and not long after I was there one bright Sunday morning for my first wrestling training session. It’s fun to think back to those days and remember the people who have come and gone and the great nicknames (laughs).

WPW: You made your debut at The Uprising event in February 2003 in a Four Way Match including Bobby BadBlood (Marshall), Kiel Steria and Chris J. Lazareth. What memories do you have from your debut match and your rookie year?

HASTE: Man I remember the weeks leading up to that match, I think it was meant to be a three way then got turned into a four way and back and forth which is great when it’s your first match and you’re trying to think of things to do for it (laughs). It’s funny cause during the planning I needed a top rope move to throw in there and I was just like screw it I’ll do a frogsplash thinking I’d never be doing it again and we all know how that went.

Leading up to it they wanted me to work on the splash a lot, so I practiced the aim onto a crash mat a heap of times, then onto thinner gym mats and then just straight onto the mat. So many times, I think back and think stupid kid what were you thinking, plus ask anyone and when I hit the frogsplash I REALLY hit it so all that time practicing my aim was really for nothing.

As for the rest of the year it was pretty good, pretty sure I didn’t win a single match though. I use to watch my matches back all the time but now just thinking about them makes me think eeewwww, plus I even weird myself out with some of the stuff I use to do. What a dorky kid. I feel sorry for Stormy (Davis Storm) and Carny (FN Carnage) who had to put up with me while I was training (laughs).

WPW: Mid 2004 saw you team up with Kiel E. Lectrifying (now Kiel Steria) as Awsome Inc. The Tag Team division was very strong at the time with teams such as The Brat Pack, The Serial Thrillers and the Genetically Superior Team. Was it a fun time being involved in the division and I have to ask about Rupert. Where did the idea of a watermelon mascot come from?

HASTE: Yeah man those matches were very important to me hitting the next level in my wrestling skills. Bob (Marshall), CJL, Kiel (Steria) and I all came up together, so we were also pushing each other so hard and trying to steal the show.

There were a bunch of matches we had with GST which were awesome (like I could still watch them back these days), including one of my all time favourite matches, the tag match we had at Hell or High Water. Man that was a crazy day, on the way to the show I was driving and Kiel was in the passenger seat and I went to change lanes on the freeway. As I turned to check my blind spot all the cars in front hit the brakes and bam, I went into the right side of the rear of the car in front. We spun a few times and I managed to steer the car off the road but yeah it was a total write off. So yeah that was a wicked way to start the day then in the opening part of the match in the dives CJL breaks his foot. So the whole match we're like s**t, s**t s**t, what we gonna do!? But as you all know we kept going and CJL wrestled for another like 15 minutes on a broken foot (injuring it far more in the process) and man did that match turn out awesome.

Wrestling the Brat Pack was a different experience but still included car crash like hits (laughs). Those two pretty much beat the s**t out of us, yet Jamie will still claim I was the stiff one. The match we had at Evolution Night 2 (I’m not good with years) (Editor: 2004) and it was us and Fergy Block against them and Rave. It was a match that hell boosted my confidence in the ring. Having no time to prepare because it was meant to be Serial Thrillers and the Blockster against them but because of the s**t beating (Justin) Sane took from Havok the night before we got thrown in on the day.

A funny moment from that match if you watch it back Jamie has me bent over and he’s laying in kicks to my head then I go all Jap on him and Enziguri him, we both tag out and Blocky Kong and Rave start going at it in the middle of the ring. If you watch the side of the screen you can see us with our respective tag partners on the outside, we're both like totally out of it and their trying to get us to stop walking towards the light (laughs) also funny (but not really) Jamie’s kicks to my head were so hard that the next day I had welts on my forehead from his laces! His soft cotton laces where smooshed into my head so hard they made me bleed!

Rupert’s a good story too. I stole the idea from it from a web comic (bonus points if you know which one). But yeah fruits a great thing to eat before a show because it doesn’t upset the stomach (unlike a pack of donuts and a kola beer) and what’s better then throwing away the outer melon? Freakin’ making a mask out of it, that’s what! I use to carve some good stuff on his forehead too aye.

Also Awsome Inc were robbed by never becoming the tag champs!

WPW: You won the EPW Championship won a Steel Cage match against Jimmy Payne at Desperate Measures in August 2007. Can you describe the experience of winning your first major championship and especially hitting the frog splash from the top of the cage?

HASTE: At the time it was a pretty crazy feeling and looking back at it now I really wish I had done more with it. My reign was pretty forgettable except for how I won it and how I lost it. Which I actually felt was the most important part of my run, when Bobby beat me I knew I was gonna make sure he put me through hell before he got it and sure enough he delivered (laughs).

The splash from the cage was cool though, we had the cage set up down at the factory for the week before the show and damn that thing was high. The first time climbing up it I was s***ting myself (little known fact Shane Haste isn’t a fan of heights) but after a bit I was climbing all over that thing like I was born up there. I watch the splash back and man that was a messy landing; I totally ate s**t over him (laughs). Lucky the next time doing it I was better prepared and it looked a lot better.

WPW: The NWA Australian Tour in November 2007 saw you team up with “Jag” Hartley Jackson to take on the NWA World Tag Team Champions, The Real American Heroes (Joey Ryan & Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson. You won a Steel Cage Match at Challenge Stadium on the first night, earning a championship shot the next night in Bunbury. What was it like working with the Heroes?

HASTE: It was pretty cool; I actually don’t remember much about it though. I just remember it was really easy, their confidence rubbed off on me so I was pretty relaxed. I was already used to wrestling people I’d never met before so there were no nerves for that part and because Jag had wrestled them before and was on a level much above myself he took care of most of it and I just had to do what I always did at that time, be me.

Man that trip was great fun though, getting to hangout with all those guys and kickin’ it with them in Bunbury. (Laughs) Some great moments and stories that unfortunately I can’t share with you but I’ll tell you this the next year while at the NWA TV tapings I caught up with Danielson again and he was playing it off like he remember me but I could tell he didn’t until I reminded him I was the guy who showed him a certain genital trick. For the record it wasn’t his I did the trick on, it wasn’t like that at all, 100% hetro. Ahh, totally dragging my good name through the mud...

WPW: Late 2008 saw you make your first US tour. In only your third match outside of Australia you had a NWA World Heavyweight title match against “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce. Were you surprised that the NWA gave you a shot at the 10 pounds of gold so soon after your arrival?

HASTE: Nah bro, its Shane Haste you’re talking to. But seriously I was told I could have the match before I went over so I’d thought about it enough. The thing with wrestling is you shouldn’t believe anything’s gonna happen till it’s actually happening, so being told I was getting the match didn’t have me convinced it was gonna happen but I was gonna head to the states regardless.

Great guy to work with and having that match so soon into my trip was great because it taught me the right way of doing it thusly I didn’t pick up any bad habits. Feels pretty rad to be one of few Australians to get to wrestle for it though, so when I see people talk about it I still think f**k yeah.

WPW: What was it like being part of the early days of the NWA Showcase TV tapings, was there a lot of difference to how the show was taped compared to EPW’s Monday Night Wrestling tapings?

HASTE: Yeah there was a huge difference, but that’s the differences between Perth and L.A. Here in Perth we're pretty laid back and EPW is a family so we're all looking out for each other and junk where L.A is very business and the guys there are all over the place and there’s so many of them. So mad props to (David) Marquez and all those guys in charge to get a handle on everyone and get the show out there.

It was a great learning experience for sure and I got plenty of good feedback. One of the matches I was wrestling Inspirted Fidel (I’m 100% sure that wasn’t his name but it was something like that) and Pearce interrupted it and threw me into the ring post and shit me it was the hardest I’ve ever been thrown into anything in my life, back on camera I’m probably all looking dazed as I’m heading towards it but in my mind it was AAAHHH!!! I’m gonna die! Then I hit it and just spun ... and that part was pretty fun.

WPW: Early 2009 saw the Blitz Team have an excellent series of matches with then Tag Team Champions, Dan Moore and Chase Griffin. Which one stood out your favourite?

HASTE: I don’t know, they’re all just a big blur to me now (laughs) but even if not I probably couldn’t pick a favorite. I have favorite moments from them but it’s mostly the emotion that went into each match that really sticks out to me. Being a worldly seasoned wrestled I am I really wanted to bring out in them what I think is the most important thing in wrestling and that’s the emotion, the raw fire of passion that if you get it right you don’t have to do shit and the crowd will eat it up. When Chase went to cheat in the Goldrush match and I challenged him to swing it out with me, it doesn’t get much rawer then that. I was just yelling at him to hit me and man he brought the fire... and beat the p**s out of me (laughs), so it just shows you get what you ask for.

It was great fun in the second match reversing all the shit we did in the first, I laugh at my herculean like strength when I pushed Dan mid air into Chase when they went for the double double. The table match was a great way to finish it, was so easy and fun. I mean when you got so many tables you really don’t need to put much more thought into it. My highlight from it was dropping the ladder on Moore’s head (laughs) sure felt like a p***k doing it but I knew it’s what he would wanted me to do.

Another little real life of Shane Haste fact after the show that night on my way home, I was in yet another car crash the brakes locked up on my car and I skidded out through a red light and got nailed but another car. Everyone was ok, but man it was a scary moment after when I knew I was fine but then seeing another smashed up car I was like holy s**t. They were fine too and very nice about the whole thing... maybe a little too nice. So lesson to be learnt here: Don’t ask me for a ride.

WPW: Can you tell us about your experiences working for Pro Wrestling Guerilla in 2009?

HASTE: PWG was awesome fun, from the matches to the crowds and especially the backstage atmosphere. There’s a few things that happen like every PWG show and my first match there, I’m pretty sure I did all of them. It was a four way match between Human Tornado, Charles Mercury, JTP and myself, and Tornado and JTP are as about as popular as you get over there so I thought I would side with Mercury. Big mistake, I instantly got pummeled by Tornado and thrown out of the ring cleaning up like five people and spilling two jugs of beer (To those who don’t know PWG doesn’t have guard rails, the crowd just sits up to the ring) then Tornado came flying out of the ring onto me wiping out another five odd people THUS ticking off two things, 1: Messing up where people are sitting and 2: Spilling someone’s full beer.

Later in the match Mercury and I went to give LTP the old spirit squad throw up in the air thingy but we were all so sweaty that as we went to fling him up into the air our hand slipped right off and he got about half a foot up and we looked like we threw an invisible man up. So this got me my first and ticked off #3... the you f****d up chant. Then near the end I was a little jumbled to what I was doing (probably after being kicked in the head so much and hard during Tornado's corner kick dance) and all I remember was seeing Mercury standing there ready to Powerbomb LTP and I thought “s**t I better take him out” so I did the fourth thing: an impromptu superkick! Now I don’t do super kicks so I know it was the spirit of PWG and Indy wrestling taking over me as I thrusted my foot into the already split chin of Mercury definitely making it much worse.

The other two times I worked for them I was more confident and fist pumped for the crowd which was way more fun because for some reason they took me as a big guy, so I got to man handle everyone and use my power moves. Backstage was great too, as some of you know PWG get some of the best Indy guys in to work and at PWG shows they’re so relaxed and having a good time. So listening to their stories and seeing them prepare was wicked for learning and getting to know what to expect from wrestling and working in America. One of the shows also had Dragon Gate guys there so it was packed back there and they’re a lot of fun too with their over politeness.

The crowds there were awesome too, they would pop for everything! Someone did a Russian leg sweep and they lost their s**t (it probably helped that they were mostly drunk). So all in all I reckon I had a good run there though it’s funny I got booked there cause the promoter saw me doing a 630 dive and thought shit yeah we'll get a cool flippy guy yet once I got there all I did was throw people around and maybe did one standing Moonsault.

WPW: You were booked to take on Teddy Hart at an Alternative Wrestling Show card in September 2009, but apparently AAA wanted him to stay in Mexico. You ended up taking on former Wrestling Society X star, Scorpio Sky. Were you disappointed that you didn’t get to take on Hart?

HASTE: I was pretty surprised I got put up against him in the first place, usually over there they don’t really put you up against the out of town names. So I talked to a few of the guys there who had worked with him or had met him and all I kept getting back were these horror stories, people who met him said he was a nice guy and seemed normal but the people who had wrestled him where telling me about how much of a nutbar he was... but still a nice guy.

So leading up to getting to the show that day I was pretty worried thinking what’s this guy gonna be like and how awful is this going to be, then we get there and they tell me has had to go back to Mexico and can’t do it. And to be honest I was like thank god, then when they told me I’d be up against Sky I was as excited as you’d think I would be to wrestle Hart (laughs).

Sky’s a great guy and an awesome wrestler and was defiantly on my list of people to go against there. I really wish someone had put the match up, I never even got to see it back but man it had some awesome stuff in it (to toot my own horn) and he nailed me with so many knees and elbows. But yeah it turned out to be a great night and hell yeah I’d love the opportunity to not wrestle crazy Hart and work Scorpio again.

WPW: Late 2010 you attended the Harley Race Training Academy. How was it and were you nervous at all taking part in the NOAH/WWE tryouts?

HASTE: Not really. I’d gotten into town about 2-3 weeks before it so I’d met the guys down there and gotten to know what it would be like. Also the weekend before we went to Kansas to go see a show some of the local guys were on and it turned out it was like a 4-5 hour long TV taping and I was wearing shorts and a T-Shirt. What does that matter you might ask well for those 4-5 hours I was sitting watching this show in the freakin’ freezing cold weather, it was shit cold. So I ended up catching a cold, awesome thing to get two days before the camp (oh yeah I should mention it’s a NOAH/WWE camp, not a try out).

So the year before this camp had 50+ people to it, WWE and NOAH wrestlers there to take it and show people new and amazing things but for us there was only eight of us... and no one from WWE came. Two upper office guys from NOAH came, who though not wrestlers still had a wealth of knowledge and interesting things to teach. Also of course Harley was there too and though he's getting on his age and can’t move like the king used to he’s still as sharp as ever with his wrestling mind and picks up on a lot of things and has great advice.

I managed to scrape through the first day but the sickness killed me that night and I was unable to make it the next, the rest of the week I wasn’t at full power either but I think that worked in my favour as it slowed me down which meant more control of my body and helped improve my pacing. So it was a long week for us with a lot of matches, some good and some bad. I remember Mike almost losing his shit a few times (laughs) but luckily we had plenty of trips to Starbucks to cheer us up. In the end it turned out to be great for us because even though a WWE rep never came we had impressed Harley which with his connections turned out great.

A few days after the camp we went in to say bye to Harley and thank him for the training and wisdom, we told him we were gonna head to Florida to give it a crack there and he said to wait here a little bit longer and he'll give WWE a call. So for 3 days Harley kept calling WWE for us just to put in a good word which is awesome of him, I mean he's Harley freakin’ Race he don’t have to do s**t for no one (laughs). So eventually Harley got through to them and after a bit of conversation they said they'd love to have a look at us and we should head down to FCW in Tampa. And that’s when the real tryout happened.

Now I can’t tell everything that we did and all that cause I’m sure we signed confidentiality papers but I’ll give you a vague description of what went down. We spent a week there, trained with their guys did a few taped things that would be sent off to WWE offices and watched/helped out at the shows that weekend where we could. It was such an awesome experience there, the place is like heaven for wrestlers who want to learn, the amount of experience and wealth of knowledge there is incredible and everyone is so helpful and fun (laughs).

Tampa is a beautiful place too, so many places to eat, the weather was great and it was the first time in awhile we'd seen some pretty girls (laughs), gotta remember we'd been in Eldon, Missouri for a month and a bit before that. So the tryouts were great and we were having such fun there that I didn’t feel the nerves and Harleys camp turned out pretty good for us I mean we still keep in contact with the NOAH guys now too.

WPW: Do you have any plans to return to the States in 2011 and possibly appear for NWA Hollywood?

HASTE: I don’t have any plans to but if I was in the area I sure would, the set up they got for it looks great and I love working with the guys they have there. We (Mike and I) were going to try be there for one taping while we were in the states last year but ended up in Tampa that week so we didn’t make it.

WPW: The past couple of years in EPW have seen you as part of two very successful Tag Teams. Having Championship reigns as part of the Blitz Team with Alex Kingston and TMDK with Mikey Nicholls. Are you hoping to get back in contention for the EPW Championship in 2011?

HASTE: This year I kinda wanna have a crack at everything. I love tagging with Mike so you'll definitely see us keep on going, BUT that new belt does look awfully good. Since my last title run was pretty forgettable, I do wanna take a hold of the championship again and really do something with it but of course that would require beating Davis Storm and I haven’t been able to do that yet (laughs). Also with the Hardcore Shield being added it seems like I’m not a grand slam guy anymore SO I’m gonna have to get that too (laughs). And the Rising Star Cup too I guess... I don’t know how but I’ll find a way.

WPW: You have wrestled some big names over the course of your career, which have been some of your favourites to wrestle, both here and in the States and who would you like to face that you haven’t had the opportunity to?

HASTE: Haven’t really wrestled big names (laughs), met a few. But to the question, I guess I’d have to say probably John Cena you know just starting small (laughs).

But for realsies, Overseas I’d love to wrestle a few guys in L.A. like Johnny Yuma, Brandon Parker, Johnny Goodtime, Chris Kadillak and some others I’m forgetting at the moment. A lot of those guys are really good friends of mine, some who are fairly new still and have come a long ways from when they started. Other US guys would be guys like Davey Richards and Bryan Danielson who would have rocked my world if I had got to test myself against him while he was still in the Indies. The biggest on my to do list though is KENTA, dudes my fave and even though he'd probably kick me into a coma it would be awesome.

Back here in Australia there’s a few too, from over east there’s the Fitness Maniacs and I reckon there’s a match of the year to be had with them against TMDK for sure. Ryan Eagles would be a fun match too aye. In Perth, I’m really looking forward to see how good some of the new guys coming through here are, guys like Marcus Pitt, we had a match many years ago when he was pretty green and he's come a long way since then so I’d like to see if he’s gotten better (laughs). Chase Griffin and I have tangled many a times in tag matches but I wanna roll with him in a singles, maybe even hardcore (we haven’t seen me do that yet). Alex Kingston is on my list for singles too, now that we're not full time tag partners I’d like to test “the kid”. He’s starting to travel around the country and getting some wicked experience so I think it’s time to see if he's ready to become “the man” (laughs). I’m pretty funny aye.

WPW: After nearly eight years in the business, what does Shane Haste still hope to achieve in his career?

HASTE: I really wanna wrestle all over the world. I like the idea of traveling but I won’t go anywhere there’s not wrestling; wether it be matches or just training. Eight years really isn’t very long in wrestling time I don’t think and I feel like I’m starting to hit my stride now so I’m hoping it’s all uphill from here. I wanna recapture the EPW title and defend, defend, defend it, around Australia where possible too.

In the long run I want to be in the WWE, do all the things you can there, travel, have the moments and junk. It looks like a lot of fun. After that I’d love to come home and help make EPW bigger and better known. Hopefully if I accomplish something in wrestling and it will make wrestling in Australia bigger and Australian wrestlers will get recognised for their skills.

But really the short answer to it is: To make money and sell out. Sex, Drugs AND then rock n roll.

Willie Mack Joins the Alliance

Mach-1 Champ Willie Mack joins Alliance Radio Monday, Sept. 20th at 7:30PM EDT, 4:30PM PDT.

Some might call the Mach 1 Heavyweight Champion, Willie Mack and over-night sensation, but that would be an injustice to all the blood, sweat, and tears, Mack has shed through out his struggles to make in the world of professional wrestling.  Mack made his first splash to a national audience when he appeared on the NWA Showcase.  Still learning the ropes, Mack would face off against guys like Joey Ryan, NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce, and former World Champion Brent Albright. February 5th of this year, Willie Mack cashed in an opportunity to wrestle in a Four-Way Match for the Mach-1 Wrestling Heavyweight Championship.  Outlasting Ryan, James Morgan and Bobby Marshall, Mack has held on to that title successfully regardless of the challenger.  As his notoriety grew, Mack would be invited to take part in the wildly successful Lucha Va Voom under the guise of Chocolate Caliente.  The native of St. Louis Missouri, faces his biggest challenge in Mach-1 in the man "Big Nasty" Jason Watts who has every intention to take the title from Willie Mack.  I will be talking to Mack about his eventual showdown with Watts, Mach-1 Wrestling, his altercation with "Very European" Claudio Castagnoli, and how he feels about the NWA Championship Wrestling From Hollywood.  And we'll be taking your calls!

Introducing The Pringle Dynasty!

Some call him Uncle Paul, some call him Paul Bearer, I'll just call him Percy Pringle.  And good ole Percy has found his way back into managing.  Pringle infamously managed the Undertaker to more than a few championships.  And now, Pringle is building a faction in the NWA.  Already signed to the Pringle Dynasty are Shaun Ricker and Brian Cage... Natural Selection.  If you don't know Natural Selection yet, don't worry about it, Percy Pringle is planning to change all of that.  Prior to joining up with Pringle, the duo were NWA M1W Heritage Champions.  That is until they lost the belts to team of Johnny Yuma and Johnny Goodtime,  the RockNES Monsters.  At the Showcase on May 22nd, Pringle managed his Dynasty against the tag team of Joey Ryan and Willie Mack.  Bested that night, Pringle has already ensured that his guys will be working the Showcase Events in Oceanside, Yuma, and San Bernadino on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of June and pursuing NWA gold.

Breaking news regarding NWA Pro Wrestling...

Fans of NWA Pro Wrestling have reason to rejoice, with news coming out of the front office announcing a big NWA Pro Wrestling event scheduled to take place Orange High School, in Orange California.  May 22nd will also mark the return of former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon Jr.  Words has it, that there will be a camera crew taping this event.  This will also be the kicking off a series of events for the group in the Orange County area of Southern California and there is also a rumor of back to back events for NWA Pro Wrestling, the first taking place in Oceanside, CA and the second one taking place in Yuma, AZ at the Desert Sun Stadium

National Champion "Universal Soldier" Phil Shatter Interview

Its good to be the champ. I spoke to NWA National Champion Phil Shatter before his NWA National Title defense in Cornelia, GA, against Steven Walters for NWA Anarchy.  The champion was very candid about his beginnings and his future.  We talk about Shatter's 13 month title reign, his matches in South America, Hollywood, Charlotte, McKeepsport, and Cornelia.  We talked to callers from Charlotte and even Alliance-Wrestling Message Board user DKM, calls in.  Shatter also talks about his relationship with Matt and Jeff Hardy. Shatter needs no introduction to the NWA Faithful he stands 6'2 at 247lbs.  He's held multiple NWA territorial championship courtesy of NWA New Beginnings this is the "Universal Soldier" Phil Shatter.

Jay Cal:  Its great to get to talk to you Shatter, I've been a big fan of yours for a while.  I've been following your career for a through NWA Anarchy I got to see you live in Hollywood for the NWA Showcase.  Let us talk about your beginnings, where did you get your start in the world of wrestling.

Shatter: It meant a lot man, I did a bunch of shows here and there.  I did some time in the military.  When I started Anarchy it was a whole new world to me.  We had our TV tapings there, I came in as a tag team with Truitt Fields and eventually they split us up.  In my opinion I got that NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Title before my time and I always say that.  It matured me a lot because it taught me ,because even though Anarchy is a smaller promotion, oppose to like TNA and WWE obviously, as champion of that promotion , [the title] is over your shoulder or around your waste its your job to carry good matches every night and you are carrying the company and people are looking at you as the champion, the poster child of that promotion.  And when I did win that I knew I was putting bigger shoes on, so to speak.  And it matured me a lot in the ring.I had to learn to adapt to different styles and it helped me further my career as a National Champion also, because I can work different styles and I have learned that because of that.

Jay Cal:  And there is a higher caliber talent in NWA Anarchy, greater than what you are going to see most smaller indies and that's another benefit of being associated with the NWA being able to scout some of the best talent in the World to work for your promotion.  Speaking of competitors around the world, not many people know this about you.  I heard a not too long ago, you were down in South America, in Bolivia you wrestled a show down there.  How was that?

Shatter:  It was a four day trip and we did two shows in Bolivia and the first show was in La Paz.  It was different, a different crowds.  Obviously the people there were hyped up for the Luchadors there and the masked wrestlers and they like different styles and it was a total culture shock for wrestling.  It was kind of like watching the old NWA from the 80s, which I do a lot of, and the crowds were really hot for small things, unlike an American crowd where the wrestling has evolved and the crowds want to see different things.  But in South America they don't get to see wrestling at all, so they were going nuts for arm drags and small things like facials and it was really a great opportunity and it was a blast.  I would love to do it again, to go over over there to defend my national title over then.  To work to good shows in front of those crowds, it was amazing.

Jay Cal:  How did that even come about, did a Bolivian promoter contact you?

Shatter:  David Marquez out in California who does the Showcase shows out there [with Pro Wrestling Revolution promoter Gabriel Ramirez].  He got in touch with me and I had contacted him about it.  [Marquez] gave me a call on a Thursday or Friday and I had to fly out that following Wednesday.  So it was real quick.  So I thank Dave [and Gabe] for that all the time [they] got me that opportunity.

Jay Cal:  That's pretty awesome, not too many wrestlers in the states get to travel outside the states.  And you'll hear a lot of wrestlers say, my goal is... if I don't get into the WWE or TNA I want to go to Japan or Mexico.  So I think its pretty great in the short time of your career that you've been able to travel to South America and take another stepping stone on your path to greatness.  Speaking of greatness, the National Heavyweight Championship you wear around your waste has also been held by certain guys like, former ECW Heavyweight Champion Steve Richards, former GWF North American Champion Doug Gilbert, the current NWA Texas Champion Kevin Northcutt, TNA standout  and Wildside Alum Hernandez and you won that title back in January of last year making your reign a little over a year long, what has it meant to you win such a prestigious championship?

Shatter: Its been an honor man, I grew up watching Tully Blanchard who was one of the main National Champions and Terry Taylor, and the list goes on.  I can hype it up, but the National title means a lot.  The people know [being champion] makes you a major contender for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship.  Its an honor for me to carry [the National Title] to be able to be on that list of the guys you named with others who go on that list its an honor.  Something as a kid I dreamed about holding titles, obviously every kid wants to be a champion.  For me to be able to live my dream and have the national title on the list of something I've done and hold it for a year, its good.  I've been able to live a dream a lot of people don't get a chance too.

Jay Cal:  Not only that, but I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but you have defended that title successfully 12 times.  That wasn't just in Cornelia or Charlotte, that was all over-- Hollywood, McKeepsport, you've defended that title in four states.  That title has traveled more with you in one year than the two years with the prior two champions.

Shatter:  That's good to know, I like that.  I keep all my matches written down, but I didn't know it was 12 times.  That's good to know that I've got to carry it around more than anybody else.  My goal is to really take that National title and put it back on the NWA to where it really meant something and I feel like I have done that.  I've given a lot of good matches with that, not to take anything away from my competitors, we've all worked at that.  Its good to know that the NWA is looking at the National Title as something that has a lot of prestige and should be looked at that also.

Jay Cal:  Exactly, you've won that championship from a Crusher Hansen from out there in Pennsylvania, what were your thoughts on NWA East and your opponent Hansen?

Shatter:  I came into NWA East with eight inches of snow for god's sake and I was shocked by the roads.  I wasn't used to that being from North Carolina.  I got a chance to go back their last September.  It was a real nice promotion, the guys up there are real friendly and for me to have walked into a new locker room and all workers know this, for me to walk into a locker room, oh boy, what's going to happen here.  We all clicked really well and there was no animosity with anybody, even with Crusher Hansen, he was putting the title on the line and he was really professional about it.  I hadn't heard a lot about him, but I thought we had a really good match, a National Title Match and he put up a fight.  [Hansen] was a really nice guy, really old school worker, he was simple, we didn't have to do anything crazy.  The fans got into it what we did in the ring and I'd love to go back their anytime.  I did it in September again and the fans were just the same and I have nothing bad to say about that promotion.

Jay Cal:  As a fan of the NWA I think its great way the B.O.D. champions travel.  And anytime I can see the National Champion going to Pennsylvania, or Cornelia, or Hollywood, or making stops in Texas, Tennessee, I think that's great, not only for the NWA and  yourself, but great for the fans.  Not all of us get to see your matches and fortunately for you, you've been in some pretty prolific matches, so your matches make it to the internet, so a lot of us get to see what's going on in NWA Anarchy and the NWA 60th Anniversary show where you worked with Iceberg and Mikael Judas, and what you've done in the past in Charlotte and what you are doing there now.  Its great that the promotions you work with have been able to showcase your matches on the internet.

Shatter:  Definitely, a lot of guys their [matches are] not put on the internet.  I think Bill Behrens and guys like that who take the time to put my stuff on the internet, not only for me to see, but for my fans-- I can twitter it, I can facebook it, and myspace, so people can watch it and see what I'm about and see the National Title defended.

Caller:  This is Randy from Sarasota and I'm wondering when you are going to give Chance Prophet a shot at your title?

 

Shatter:  Alright Randy from Sarasota, I actually got to wrestle Chance back in July of last year at a show at a Baseball stadium in Ashville North Carolina.  That was his re-match.  I'll give Chance Prophet a re-match any day.  Anytime he wanted one, anytime we get a chance to be in the same state, in the same building and I told him this.  I said I would love to have another shot of him another match with him.  Because he was the National Champion at one time and he never really lost it.  But because of the injury he had to vacate it to [Pepper Parks, who would go on to lose it to Crusher Hansen].  When I did wrestle him I had a victory over him, it gave me a little closure on my reign.  But anytime, Chance Prophet is an amazing athlete and amazing worker and I have the utmost respect for him.  So any time he wants one, all he as to do is call me.

Jay Cal:  Chance Prophet has been a fan favorite at the message boards of www.alliance-wrestling.com and those words coming out of your mouth I'm sure are making are fans excited and maybe at some point you two can hook up down the road.

Caller:  Phil Shatter, from what I understand, you also served some time in the Armed Forces for the United States and I was wondering if you could give us a little history on that.  And thank you very much for serving our country sir.

Shatter:  Absolutely man, and thank you for saying that.  In 2002 I joined the Marine Corps. I didn't get to see war, which I'm [lucky] to say because a lot of soldiers who go out to see war don't make it home from war.  But from 2002 to 2006 I was in the Marine Corps., I got to do some traveling, going over seas with the ship, Greece, Spain, and Italy. I did a little stint in Kuwait, but there was no combat scene, thank god for that.  It was fun time, I had a good time in the military and it was a different life style that not everyone could do.  I couldn't do 20 years.  A lot of guys out there who are doing 20 and a lot of people are doing more than 20.  I have a lot of respect for the guys who can last that long.  I made a lot of friends, went to a lot of cool places, great opportunity, and I carried on the tradition of my father and my uncles and my family.  2002 I carried the tradition of my family, I did my time honorably and got out in four years and was happy with it.

Caller:  Fantastic.  Thank you again for your service to this country.  And nothing but much luck in your road to stardom as being already the NWA National Champion.

Jay Cal:  With regards to your career you were working for a short time with fellow Anarchy wrestlers Mikael Judas and Kimo as TNA Security.  What was your role in TNA and do you have any memorable moments working for TNA?

Shatter:  We were there for around seven months, now with Hogan there, a lot of things have changed.  We were the lower guys on the totem pole so we got booted out.  The security storyline started out with Bugsy McGraw and he was supposed to be the leader and we're the swat team, breaking up fights with Abyss.  I thank Terry Taylor a lot he helped us get down there and we had a lot of fun.  Everyone at TNA, they were out to help the other guys, AJ Styles, Abyss, they were really down the earth people.  We didn't get a chance to have a match, which was unfortunate, but nothing bad to say about TNA at all.  They got to see our faces and they know who we are.  It was fun.  To be able to work for a company like that, I hope they start another Monday night war and I would like to be apart of that.  But we got to be on TV a little bit and it was good times.

Caller:  I was just calling to ask if a Phil Shatter intends on defending his National Heavyweight Title at any of the shows that he is part of here in Charlotte.

Shatter:  We do.  Do you know about the Legends Show on the 14th?

Caller:  Yes, yes I bought my ticket.  And I'm very excited.

Shatter:  Good, I'm glad and thanks for buying your ticket and being apart of it.  We had the [NWA In] Charlotte Show on the 23rd and Greg Price is going to be doing monthly shows starting on the 14th.  Then in March he's doing two shows, Saturday and Sunday.  I will have plenty of opportunities to defend in Charlotte.

Jay Cal:  Talking about Charlotte, like you said on the 23rd you faced a familiar foe Caprice Coleman.  I know you had a match in Georgia just a few weeks ago.  Has he finally been removed from your side or is he a thorn in need of removing.

Shatter:  Our first match was Halloween night and he put up a good battle.  It was a real tough title defense. Then back to Charlotte.  As of now he is the NWA Anarchy Television Champion, so as far as I know, he's not really a thorn in my side too much.  I'm always going to keep an eye on him because Caprice Coleman is a great competitor he's been around since the Wildside times and he has done a lot of things in his career.  I've got a lot of respect for him.  He is something to watch out for in the ring and at any time a guy like that can take a title off you like that.  He proved that when he had won the TV title he had only been back for like 4 months.  So I'll say he isn't a thorn in my side, but he is always in my sight, because he's a good competitor.

Jay Cal:  Charlotte has been good to you, we won't talk much about the past but with NWA in Charlotte using you as a main focal point and also NWA New Beginnings making you the center piece, how does it feel to become the main event in your home state of North Carolina?  You've been in the main events in NWA Anarchy and NWA East, but its got to mean something being in your home state and being that main event for the NWA.

Shatter:  Yeah it does, because Charlotte from my old home town Hickory is about 45 minutes.  To finally be in that spot in the main event and to hold that National Title, its an honor.  For guys like Greg Price and Bill Behrens and the guys who are running in Charlotte like Bob Trobich, the head of the NWA to say we can put this guy in the main event spot, because he can carry the match or the show it means a lot.  There is a lot of pressure because there are matches on the card are going to be amazing and you got to go out and follow and impress the fans, because you are the last match of the card and your job is to send those people home happy.  I feel like I can do that.  I'm in a point in my career where I can keep learning and help carry a good match for the people.  So its a privilege. 

Jay Cal:  Your attorney / agent Jeff G. Bailey at one point was quoted as saying nobody in the NWA that was in Phil Shatter's League.  Coming from Jeff G. Bailey manager of champions, who successfully managed AJ Styles to a world championship.  He successfully managed Anarchy Champions, yourself included, Now you are the National Champion.  In your league?  Who is out there in the NWA who is in your league or is no one in your league?

Shatter:  There are a lot of workers in the NWA.  I listened to you list the top ten earlier and how PWI hasn't been updated.  But guys like Oliver John, I got to see Oliver John a lot in California and he's impressive.  I'm not going to sit here and say no one is in my league, because I don't want to be like that.  I look at guys like Adam Pearce, who I haven't got to work yet, I get that opportunity next Sunday, he is a two times World Champion, I can't say that he isn't in my league.  Because I'm not the Worlds Champion.  Or haven't been, yet.  Its a huge compliment [from Bailey] but I feel like I can compete with anyone and step into the ring with anybody.  So that's a big stepping stone there, Jeff Bailey gets on a rant sometimes.  He has watched me evolved.  I have gotten better over time.  So it was nice of him to say that, I appreciate it.

Jay Cal:  It should be an honor.  His pedigree in terms of managing champions you can't really argue with that.  I watched you in Hollywood.  I saw you take on a guy named Tristan Gallo, it was a fun match.  I kept thinking to myself sitting in the stands, how much i would like to see you face off against former North American Champion El Gran Apolo.  Or another guy like Brent Albright.  I saw Abright take on Mike DiBiase for the North American Championship and the whole time was thinking that this match would be off the charts if Shatter was in it.  This Valentine's day, you are going to kiss your sweetie goodbye, you're going to make your way to Charlotte and your going to face Adam Pearce.  This will be the most prolific match in your career.  What have you done to prepare for this match up.

Shatter:  It really is.  I've said that already before to everybody.  I've had numerous tough opponents.  But Adam Pearce is going to bring it to the table.  He always does in every match.  Obviously you know that he is a two time champion.  He's the booker for Ring Of Honor, the man knows the business and knows what he's doing when he gets into the ring.  So I'm not taking him very lightly.  What I've done to prepare for the match is study Adam Pearce style.  I've watched some of his matches with Brent Albright and even some of his older stuff with Frankie Kazarian and Chrisopher Daniels, it was a three-way.  I don't even know what year it was.

Jay Cal:  I was at that show.  Millennium Pro Wrestling in Southern California, probably 1999 or 2000

Shatter:  Yeah, I've really watched him.  I got a chance to meet Adam last January at the first Charlotte show and it was really the only time I ever met him.  Then later in California during the Showcase.  Superb guy, superb athlete and I said it to Greg Price, its gonna be tough, it'll be a tough National Title defense.  But I plan on coming out victorious like I have the past 12 times like we talked about.  And that's not taking Pearce lightly at all.  He's been around the world, he's competed in different promotions, he has been in the business since 1996, and he knows what he's doing.  He's a professional.  And he knows who he is stepping into the ring with.  He's watched me over time as progressed as National Champion.  He says he's looking past me and he is looking at that rematch with Blue Demon Jr. and he might think that the National title is a step down.  But for me its a step up.  If I'm victorious its a big step up for me, so we'll see what happens.  I'm looking forward to it. 

Jay Cal:  You touched on what I was going to ask, he did go on record saying he was looking past you.  He also said he was looking past Dru Onyx, towards Blue Demon, and then went out and beat Dru Onyx for NWA British Commonwealth Championship in Quebec.  I don't know if this match will be title vs. title, that British Commonwealth Championship has been held by a lot of great names, Adam Pearce is certainly on top of that list.  Does Pearce winning that championship change your plan of attack or are you know what you have to do and that's what you are going to do.

Shatter:  Its really straight up, I know what I have to do.  [Pearce] made his remarks that if he had to, he would add the National Title to his list of trophies.  Nobody has done it in a year in a month now and I don't see Adam Pearce doing it.  Its not down talking [Pearce] or his ability, but I have a lot of pride in how I  work in the ring and how I carry the championship and to me it is going to be a step up and after this match I will be seen as the Number One contender to that Worlds Heavyweight Championship.  Which is my ultimate goal to be the NWA World Champion.

Jay Cal:  Blue Demon is a marked man.  Half of the Alliance is looking at him now and wondering who is going to take the belt from him.  A lot of people see him living on borrowed time. Lets take a call.

Caller: This is DKM.  My question for Shatter, of course we have a new North American Champion in the Sheik  And you guys are already talking about Blue Demon and I was wondering how Shatter felt his style meshes up with their styles.  What kind of matches does he think they can put on.  I'm sure he is out to  collect more gold.

Shatter:  Absolutely!  I'm always out to collect more gold, that's a goal of mine... the National Title, the North American Title, the Worlds Title.  [In regards to] Blue Demon, being in Bolivia and getting  to work with some of the luchadors out there, it is going to help me a lot with that style. If I get a chance to work with Blue Demon, I [saw him compete in California], he is not one of the crazy high flyers, like you see in lucha libre, but he is a luchador and with that style and being able to work with that style [when I was in] Bolivia, I really think it helped to mold myself and with some of the smaller guys in the states who work a high flying style like Sal Rinuaro, I think it helped me to get ready for Blue Demon.  Now with the Sheik, from what I've seen of the Sheik, I got to see him in California also and in Charlotte and watched his match with Apolo, he looks like the kind of guy we would just beat each other around the ring.  He has a more brutal style, I guess brawler style.  He likes to take his opponent outside and try to ground and pound them.  And I have done a lot of that too, so I think me and him would be equal in the ring when it comes to something like that.  We would probably go back and forth like Wahoo McDaniel and Tully Blanchard used too.  

Jay Cal:  Great comparison right there.

Shatter:  Yeah I watch those guys a lot, I was just watching one of the matches this morning.  Those two back in the 80s, in the NWA and the Mid-Atlantic Stuff, man they were brutal.  Wahoo, would be chopping him and Tully would be punching him and I can see something like that if the Sheik and I ever locked up, that it would probably be like.

DKM:  I would really like to see you hold the World Title one day, maybe even soon.  I've watched your matches on the internet.  You've got a style that goes well with a wrestler, a brawler, you seem to have a good mix.  I would be very excited to see you and the Sheik banging it out for the World Title.

Shatter:  Thanks that would be great.  I appreciate that.  I love to hear fans or friends or anyone's outlook on my matches.  I'm always coming to the back after a match to find out what I did bad or what I did wrong, not what I did good.  I know what I can do good.  I want to know what I can improve on and that is something I really, for eight or nine years I've been in the business, I wanted to just be the best and be able to wrestle different styles and not be a one dimensional wrestler.  I want to be able to work all around, with high flyers, brawlers, technicians, and that's something as a champion and as a wrestler and as a person I want to be the best.  You look at Flair and Tully, Tully is one of my favorites.  Shawn Michaels, he can go out and work any style and if I'm ever going to make it to the big leagues one day, I cannot be one dimensional.

Jay Cal:  So tonight is the night for you Shatter, you are heading out to NWA Anarchy, you are putting the title on the line against Steven Walters tonight.  There is a possibility, although it be very slim, that you might not be champ come February 14th. What can you tell our listeners about Steven Walters?

Shatter:  That's true man, I'm on the road to Georgia right now and Steven Walters is used to tag team wrestling.  His partner Derrick Driver, as New Wave, former NWA Anarchy Tag Champs, they beat me and Kimo for the titles.  That was August 2008, I know what Walters can do in the ring, I've worked him singles, but you can look at it as he is more of a tag team specialist.  At some point in the match, its going to hit him, where is my tag partner?  He is used to being able to bail out of a tight situation if they have too.  Not taking anything away from Walters at all I've competed with him before, I've been in the ring with tags and singles with him and he's awesome.  He's got a different style about him, he can hit a dropkick out of anywhere in any position.  I really have to watch him and his feet.  But I know I'm going to retain my title against him.  I'm not threatened by him, too bad.  

Jay Cal:  One more question Champ.  I follow you on Twitter, I see a lot of your tweets.  But I don't know about the Hardy Show.  Tell me a little bit about that.

Shatter:  There you go.  Fans out there can get on TheHardyShow.com, they have a youtube channel and all that stuff.  The Hardy Show, I met Kimo through the Hardys, Matt and Jeff and Shannon [Moore], introduced me to him.  And it just started happening.  Taping one night and they started putting me on the show and I got to be on the cover of one of the seasons and being on the Hardy Show is a dream come true for any [fan of wrestling].  I grew up watching the Hardys, when I was in School I was watching Matt and Jeff.  Its a fun time and people see the things we do on Youtube and on DVD and its all sporadic.  Some of the things are scripted out and some of the time its just camera and you go and you start taping.  And its fun to be around those guys because you can learn so much from them.  And its great and those guys put all their time into the show; Matt, Jeff, Shannon, and Zombie and all the guys that do production with it.  Its awesome and its good times, its a party even when it isn't a party.  There is always going to be something fun going on.  Its great and I think the fans out there should check it out.

Is the NWA Returning to Charlotte?

Roughly this time last year, JD Costello and Jay Joyce announced their plans to run with the NWA in Charlotte. Not without controversies, NWA Charlotte was able to put together a series of shows. Featuring the talents of NWA National Champion: Phil Shatter, NWA Anarchy's Mikal Judas and Truitt Fields, NWA Women Champion: MsChif, legends from the Mid-Atlantic, former NWA World Champion: Raven, and an up-incomer in Ryan O'Riley. NWA Charlotte produced a weekly television show that is still available at NWA Unleashed. Unfortunately, the promotion ceased operations on the 4th of July with the following statement.

"We wanted a perfect ending. Now we've learned, the hard way, that some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment, and making the best of it, without knowing why." - JD & Jay

There were several talks of revival, but nothing ever materialized. However a series of messages from long time NWA Legends promoter could mean the return of wrestling in Charlotte.

On November 10th from Greg Price's Twitter

You guys hear that wrestling is coming back to Charlotte on a regular basis? No fruits and fairies this time, though!

And again on the 12th

Wrestling returns to Charlotte! Complete details will be announced by Christmas with monthly Sunday afternoon shows beginning in February!

But the biggest tweet came yesterday and also posted at the NWA Showcase Facebook

Okay, it's official... NWA: New Beginnings! kicks off Sunday afternoon, February 14, 2010 at the Hilton University Place hotel in Charlotte! Like they used to say, the name on the marquee says W-R-E-S-T-L-I-N-G, so expect to see the very best the National Wrestling Alliance and this area has to offer! This is gonna be a LOT of fun, folks!

Apparently the folks of Charlotte have some NWA Wrestling to look forward too. There hasn't been too much information released, but seeminly Greg Price and the NWA are back to their on-again relationship and the folks of Charlotte are the ones who are winning.

Weekly NWA Re-Cap?

If you happened to listen to Episode 2 of the Alliance-Wrestling Radio show, you heard the conversation between David Marquez and myself. Although a lot of the NWA Faithful are pinning for new episodes of the NWA Pro Wrestling Showcase, we might get the next best thing. Marquez announced on air that the NWA Pro Wrestling will be doing weekly updates again. Prior to the first incarnation of the NWA Showcase on Mav-TV, NWA Pro Wrestling produced weekly update videos from the Inoki Dojo. The show is set to begin in Mid-November and will recap NWA Live Events.

No word on the specific format, but I would venture a guess that they are looking to recap live events throughout the NWA. My understanding is that it will be open to all the members to participate. I've also heard that some of the segments will be taped at the Mach One Wrestling events in Anaheim, California. More as this develops.

NWA Wrestling Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona

The NWA Wrestling Showcase returns to Phoenix Arizona. The last time the NWA Showcase was in Arizona, they brought Australians, Mexicans, Former Champs, International names, and 2 big title defenses. El Gran Apollo defended the North American Championship against GQ Gallo and Blue Demon Jr. defended his Worlds Championship against Super Crazy and Oliver John.

Via Tweeter, David Marques has promised a fun weekend in Arizona with L.A. Park, former Worlds Champion Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, Cassandro, and the Minis. If you check out the Arizona State Fair Concert Series they have listed former NWA Tag Team Champions Los Luchas, NWA World Mini Champion Octogoncito, El Hijo de Sicodelico, and the NWA Showcase cast.

No card has been made official, but I'm confident the fans in Arizona will have a good time at this event. NWA Pro Wrestling always puts on a good show and I can only hope get a match up between Adam Pearce vs. L.A. Park. Or Joey Ryan vs. Cassandro.

NWA Lucha Chicago: Presents Blue Demon Jr. vs. The Sheik

Using a spike to draw the blood of the infidels The Sheik has slowly made a name for himself in Florida as no nonsense, blood thirsty, competitor who will stop at nothing to achieve glory and honor for his countrymen. And with the Wizard, Joey Eastman by his side, the Sheik has traveled as far west as Southern California to wrestle for the NWA Showcase. And although Fusion Pro Wrestling is where he is a Heavyweight Champion, the Sheik has traveled to Charlotte and Chicago to purge the non-believers. And it will be in Chicago, where the mad-man finally has an opportunity to claim the Legendary 10lbs of Gold. As the Sheik has already laid to waste to former WWE Superstar 2 Cold Scorpio and Florida Indy Wrestling Sensation Steve Madison, his next target is the Worlds Heavyweight Champion. And you better believe the Sheik has one more spike ready to free the blood of Blue Demon Jr.

Blue Demon Jr. has already defeated some of the most prominent names of the NWA. Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, former NWA Heritage Champion Ryan Taylor, Mexican Wrestling sensation El Dandy, current NWA Heritage Champion Oliver John, and former WWE Superstar Super Crazy. Demon has 2 more matches in Texas before he even gets to Chicago. NWA Chicago brings you this match up on October 24th, 2009.

R.I.P. Pete Goodman

I know all to well what it feels like losing a loved one. And although death is a natural part of life, it feels like we lost too many lives this year. Peter Zwissler, was well respected by the people he worked with. His name was who he was... a Good Man. I won't try to eulogize him, I'll save that for someone who knew him and loved him. But I will say that I respect the man who worked hard to become a pro-wrestler. Goodman spent most of his wrestling career with NWA Pro Wrestling. He was even a part of the NWA Showcase in its earliest incarnation and its latest.

RIP Pete Goodman.

El Gran Apollo is dual champion no more.

December 27th, 2008 marked the date where "El Gran" Apollo made his presence felt in the NWA. Apollo shocked the state of Maine by defeating Danny "Terry" Inferno. Apollo who's previous NWA appearances were limited to TNA captured the NWA On Fire Championship. Apollo would later debut for NWA Pro Wrestling, by appearing on the NWA Showcase. It would be the NWA Pro Wrestling event Striking Gold in conjunction with NWA Southwest, where Apollo would defeat the son of the Million Dollar Man, Mike DiBiase for the North American Championship. Apollo would defend his On Fire Heavyweight Championship throughout Maine and New Jersey. Apollo would also defend his North American championship in New Jeresy and in Arizona.

A huge announcement was made on the NWA On Fire website that Lance Cade had issued a challenge to 6'4" Lion. As hyped on this blog, Cade said he would hunt down the North American Champion and take his title. However apparently there was a death in the Cade family and Cade didn't make the event.

Ever the opportunist, "the Golden Boy" Billy Robinson stepped up to take on Apollo. Robinson determined to win the NWA On Fire championship was able to steal a victory with his foot on the ropes. An eranged Apollo thrashed the referee after the bout.

One must consider with Apollo's schedule with NWA On Fire and the recent defenses in New Jersey and Arizona have started to wear on the champion. One could also assume that Apollo still has a bulleyes on his chest from Lance Cade. Cade still wants that belt. Those two will meet up soon. And Apollo could go from being a Dual Champ, to no champ.

More Updates on Blue Demon Jr.

The Worlds Heavyweight Champion continues to use his name for Social Outreach in his native country of Mexico. Demon has partnered with Gerald Alfaro Association to educate the population on the symptoms of Lymphatic Cancer. September 15th will be National Linfoma Day.

And as reported earlier by SuperLuchas, Blue Demon Jr. appeared in the role of a Special Referee for Xtreme Latin America Wrestling. In a Mexico vs. Panama, Damien 666 vs. Panama Jack Daniels for PJD's RXW Championship. Panama Jack successfully defended his championship, however through the course of the night, Panama Jack and Blue Demon shared some friction and it could lead to an altercation in the future. As I previously stated XLAW previously had a relationship with the NWA and there might be small overtures to reengage that relationship.

Lastly Demon defended his World Championship against 2 other champions in their own rights in Phoenix AZ last night. The collaborative show that was produced by Impact Zone Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Revolution, and NWA Pro Wrestling featured a North American Heavyweight Title Defense and a World Title Defense. The Showcase featured wrestlers from across the globe, with fighters from Australia, Mexico, and the good ole USA. Blue Demon who had been battling the NWA Heritage and Pro Wrestling Revolution Champion in Oliver John and All Japan Pro Wrestling Junior Heavyweight Champion Super Crazy over the past few months fought off their advances. Blue Demon Jr. successfully retained his crown. With victories over both Crazy and John separately and in Three Way Dance, Demon will be awaiting his next challenge.

Updates on the NWA World Heavyweight Champ

Prior to Blue Demon Jr.'s title defenses scheduled this Sunday August 9th at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, the Champ has accepted the invitation to become the Special Guest Referee in a Panama vs. Mexico match up for XLAW. Xtreme Latin-American Wrestling had a brief relationship with the NWA in early 2006. Could this brief appearance lead to something bigger? It is entirely conceivable that XLAW may rejoin the NWA, however this is merely my own speculation. But nonetheless, Blue Demon Jr. will officiate the match for the RXW Championship. RXW is a Panamanian wrestling promotion who is sending their champion, Panama Jack Daniels to defend the honor of Panama against former WCW Luchador and CMLL regular, Damien 666.

Demon will leave Mexico after the event and join the NWA in Phoenix, Arizona. However earlier this week Blue Demon Jr. joined the Jonas Brother's for a photo shoot. I do not endorse this, but I do find it comical.
